Very sad news - in particular for older O’s fans - that Dave Dunmore died on 11 July aged 87. I first saw him a few times during the 61/62 promotion season. Fast , powerful player with a eye for goal and did the O’s proud during his time at the club. RIP Dave, you played a blinder👍

One of the best centre forwards to ever play for the club. He had everything, ball control, pace and a tremendous shot. I recall him hitting one of those old leather footballs from way outside the penalty box which slammed into the top corner before the keeper could move. He could shoot while on the run and didn’t have to take several touches to get a shot away. R.I.P Dave, and thanks for the memories.

Another of Orients best has gone.Pleased Dave went well into old age.You cannot describe to younger Orient fans how good Dave was,you had to see him play.I was one of the lucky ones who did. I do recall someone telling me that at his peak for Orient,he was being thought of for an England call up,but he sustained a serious injury.

If any of the the current squad have an iota of his talent I will be happy. You can still see him on Youtube Dave Sexton gave free transfers to Syd Bishop, Stan Charlton, Dave Dunmore, Terry McDonald in the summer of 1965. We were relegated the following season. Would we have stayed up with these players abeit Syd only made four appearances in his last season and Stan 14.

Did Dave go to York City?

He returned to York in June 1965 and scored 13 times in 61 appearances plus two as a substitute.

So few comments for Dave.Out of time I suppose. I know the name, but as you say. Just a few years before my time. He must of been a decent player for me to know his name. Older brother must of mentioned him to me, he's my O's historian from days of yore.

Thank you for that.Daves career came back to me as I read it.York City are the club I follow after Orient.Would love to see them back in the football league before I shoot through.Maybe a FA cup third round at Brisbane Road. Dave must have been the most elegant panel beater.

I think I read somewhere that at one time he was recorded as having the hardest shot in English football. I know from reading about him that he certainly had a shot on him.

Dave could certainly hit a ball Timmo but I think the “ hardest shot” tag was given to Ted Phillips who also featured in the same O’s team as Dunmore after he joined us from Ipswich Town.👍

Yes, Ted Phillips was reputed to have the hardest shot but he didn’t have Dave Dunmores class. Dave was much more than just a goal scorer , he had terrific control and lead the line exceptionally well. Tommy Johnston was clearly the greatest centre forward I’ve seen at the club but Dave dunmore ranks alongside Vic Groves and Len Julians as those behind.

Thanks red. No problem. I had a very pleasant 20-25 minute conversation with Ted about 7 or 8 years ago when I was working. Very humble and unassuming man with numerous stories about his time in the game. He made sure to remind me he scored a hat- trick on his debut for the O’s!😄👍

Never saw Johnston or Vic Groves but I did see Len Julians play for Millwall once back in the mid 60’s. Before my time but I wondered if you also ever saw Dennis Pacey play? Another one with a fierce shot my old dad used to rate highly.

I saw Ted Phillips help demolish Portsmouth 6-1 or something similar on the opening game in the glorious early sixties. The first time I took a girlfriend to a football match

A geezer I worked with was a Millwall supporter,he was always going on about a player named Frank Neary.Saying what a dirty player he was,I believe he came to us from Millwall.I don't remember him, but this geezer was 37 years older than me,every other word was bustard.
