Wasn't he just appointed too? 15 games ago. Birmingham fans are surely reminded of the club replacing Gary Rowett with Gianfranco Zola, trading playoff contention for a sexier name (and a relegation fight). Don't envy them at all.

Wayne Rooney sacked at Birmingham. How he was ever given that gig is beyond me based on his prior body if work at Derby and in the USA. Its not Rooney’s fault. If someone had offered me that job, with that sort of compo package for failure, i would have taken it too! I thought he did ok at Derby? I do feel sorry for him a bit, Not got the knack of picking the right job

I do feel sorry for him a bit, Not got the knack of picking the right job Barney Ronay wrote a piece about him needing to avoid jobs with clubs looking for a marquee name. I think it's probably good advice for any top player transitioning into management. Literally anyone not on the Birmingham City board could see this was destined to fail. They'll probably end up rehiring John Eustace at twice what they were paying him before.

Perhaps Birmingham board if they hadn't been so hasty in Rooney sacking could have employed an old sage like Lawrence to mentor Rooney. But depending on Rooney's ego whether Rooney would accept guidance from Lawrence or any manager, we will never know. Back in the day when Brian Robson was floundering at Middlesborough, dear old El Tel came to the rescue to help Robson. El Tel's experience and knowledge helped Robson and kept in a job imo.

I even saw Malcolm Allison turn out for Romford at the end of his playing days. Remarkable that he was as fit as he was as he had contracted TB I believe when he was younger and had either had a part of a lung removed or had severely damaged it.

Back in the early 90's my partners dad lived in Portugal and we stayed in his villa at Quinta do Largo.
We go for dinner and Malcolm Alison is there having dinner, he was huge. Anyway he's there I'm guessing with family and he is being treated like a god. Everyone fussing over him and making his visit as good as it could be.
I said to my partners dad "he didn't manage at this end of the country" he said "no he never, but in this country he is revered and the owner is probably a sporting fan or at least a fan of football"
It was like royalty was in residence. It was amazing the power he had due to being a coach, a top coach at, but one who had been retired for a while.

Cowley Brothers in at Colchester Utd it seems! Surprised but excellent choice. Back to their roots. Iwonder if they still have contacts in the Essex non league scene. Could boost their credentials if they get a couple of rough shinies in and turn Colchester fortunes around.

Could boost their credentials if they get a couple of rough shinies in and turn Colchester fortunes around. Both surprised and in admiration of this move by Colchester. Can’t have been easy to tempt the Cowley’s to take on a potential NL relegation battle and to do it as quickly as they did. Kudos to all concerned imho.

Cowley's stock has dropped. Not that much. He turned down an approach from Bradford City after Hughes was sacked so was still in demand.
