Yeah I remember the salt wrapped in the blue paper (1960's), years later they changed it to a blue sealed sachet, they might even still do 'em, I dunno.
Potato puffs from the tuck shop were the bee's knees (sc's thinking What!) when I was at school.

Never into potato puffs. though our school tuck shop did a nice range in pink and white coconut ice. my go to snack of choice. Do schools have tuck shops these days?

The only school of mine that is still standing is Moreland Street school in London. All the others which amounts to five in number have been demolished.Three of those were built in the 50s. I was a form captain and had the position of selling potato puffs and yoyo's during the morning break in the senior school for all the school. The crush was a sight to behold.A boys only school made it worse.

Not at mine, they knocked it down. Was that the school in Manford Way Bas.Did you know that the infant and junior school in the same road was built without steps and wide corridors to be used as an emergency hospital in the event of a nuclear war,or any other war on our soil.

It was, (Grange Hill Secondary Modern (Grange)), Dudley Edmonds (father of Noel) who also had a sense of humour was the headmaster. Top bloke.
I did not know that about Manford Way School, Wow!, thanks for that, I wondered why people kept looking up in the air.

Strange school when you go inside with slopes and no steps.Lovely schoolkeepers house as well.Private or pulled down now I suppose like most of the vicarages, but that is another story. Do you remember the Brook school in Loughton, not one of mine ,but that has gone as well.Local derby Lucton v The Brook with Lucton usually winners,we had some good sportsmen at our school.

Smiths are the company who make the crisps with the salt packet inside them. You can get them at Sainsburys still today in packs of 6.

No, I don't know about Brook School. The head mistress in the infant school was in a wheelchair so handy for her, her sister was head mistress in the junior school. I remember sitting on the wall that separates the infants from the juniors armed with a six inch nail and a can of Tizer. Panic stations after piercing the first hole trying to make the second one. I remember hiding in there one night with a few others, word got around that Kingswood School area people in Jags and with guns were roaming the area. When I was in the juniors there I was in a high jump- jump off against Colin Reitz who went on to 2 Olympic games (not high jump). It was him or me who went to the District Games, he won. The roof of Manford Way School always had a few footballs on it, thank you very much. Mum used to say "where you getting all these balls from".

I heard once that the houses you're referring to were built for councillors or such like, a few of my classmates lived in them.
I also had a few mates who lived in Debden who worked at the Bank of England printing works.
Every Friday in the Speedway season I used to pop into the pie & mash shop there on the way to my dad's (for him as well).

I used to like a lot of the new flavours we had until the EU banned them. The also made vaping more expensive. I really hate that lot.

So you're from Debden/Loughton? I thought you were from Hainault/Fairlop area. Via many moves, but still consider Loughton my home town. One of the best parts of Essex, such a lovely town and area. Debden I am told was sold to the LCC by the Maitland family.Where I lived in Debden was where any young boy would love to live.

I wouldn't of liked to have grown up in Basildon, it's too far away from London, and boring by comparison. The first thing I missed moving up here was the red buses.
When I returned a few years later to visit a friend I felt a warm glow inside seeing a 150 on it's way to the promise land (Ilford, haha).
When I see youngsters up here I think what a sheltered and probably boring life you must have compared to my upbringing.
If you go up certain roads in Loughton where the rich people live you see some top notch Christmas decorations on show. Used to anyway.

I bagged up on Tesco crisps to save some money once for my annual boat holiday on the Broads, they were horrible, I got moaned at for most of the week. I'm the opposite, I prefer the supermarket own brand crisps over Walker's tbh, especially cheese and onion. If I'm going for cheese & onion I really like Golden Wonder but you don't see them too often, Walker's seem to have cornered the Market. Golden Wonder Cheese & Onion are in a green bag where as Walker's C & O are in a blue bag, Golden Wonder use a blue bag for their Salt & Vinegar. Very confusing.

Good to see blip the thrOttle. My street is a rat run, often hear that at both ends with the ear splitting roar in the middle. I've had my Bonneville America about 4 years now, the bloke I bought it from had fitted short pipes on it, it was so loud, especially changing down through the gears was like empty metal oil drums rhythmically bouncing down a concrete hill. As the saying goes "loud pipes save lives" but these were illegally loud, I fitted the standard pipes back on that came with the bike and discovered that one of the short pipes baffler was knackered and the other has no baffler at all! So no wonder, mind you I went on a training course over at Bermondsey a couple of days after buying the bike and the noise going through the Rotherhithe tunnel was incredible, a sound to behold.
