BIG test. Vale are the form team. Will we look like we did away at Carlise and Salford (under the cosh and a bit lucky)? or like we did at Bristol Rovers? For me, the performance is key, the result not so much.

Vale were amongst my 3 to go up after they made some good pre season signings . It will be our biggest test to date and hopefully we will at least get a draw anything else will be a bonus . Are we the finished article ,I don’t think so !

Last season I would have been worried we’d be soundly beaten, but feel KJ will galvanise us enough to get a draw. If we won I’d be more than happy, but just feel these are two evenly matched sides.

True enough but if we are given the run around but nick a lucky 1-0 win, it will still mean we have a lot to do keep up the challenge. However, if we play them off the park but through sheer bad luck we lose on a sucker punch/soft pen etc, it will mean we are in good shape generally. At this stage of the season, I'd go with performance over result. After xmas, that will change.

Frankly, the fact that we are away to a Port Vale side that is in great form, and that I wouldn’t be surprised by any of the 3 possible results, is a mark of how far we have come.
How do we score against such a frugal defence? With James out, do we go like-for-like against their 3-5-2? There’s no-one in this division better than KJ to prepare for games like these. I’m so looking forward to 3 o’clock!

Because of Tom James suspension, and no obvious candidate to just step in, i thunk KJ will go back to a back four, and i also think it will mess us up. I think a defeat might happen today. If someone offered me a point now, I'd grab it

I’m leaning towards a home win if Vale score first..If we score first then I’d be happy with a draw..But at the end of the day we shouldn’t be scared of anybody..We have to get a good result at Vale to prove we mean business!! Then again a loss isn’t the end of the world..One thing for sure Vale will not come up with the shytehousery tactics that earned Mansfield a draw

Hector replacing Clay in midfield and other wise unchanged. That’s my best guess anyway. Hopefully Smyth on the bench also.

Most away games is the answer.

I understand why, but I hope they come back down soon. They are a real disincentive to travel by rail at the moment for me
