Zero shots on target by us. That is an appalling statistic.
shades of Mansfield. Plenty of huffing and puffing on the pitch. sod all end product.
3 from 12. Well, I doubt we will go down.
unhappy.

We held Walsall to a 0-0.
I only see the stream but there always seemed to be a camera shot filled with players, were there acres of empty space around the pitch?

Definitely a bad day at the office. It seems as though that late defeat at Port Vale has dented confidence badly. Will be another tough game Tuesday night and can only hope that there is a bit more energy and effort on show - we’ll certainly need it!😕

We seemed to be hunting in packs and Walsall defended in packs too. When they came foward there seemed to be more space for them to make plays. Something is amiss somewhere.

It's just so frustrating when the team starts hitting long balls towards the corners in the desperate hope that Smith will get a head on the ball. Even if he does, we never have anyone there to collect the second ball. Our game was a piece of cake for Walsall's two big centre backs today. I thought we were particularly poor in midfield today. Pratley and Kyprianou never got a grip on that area, and Clay didn't add much in the second half.
Smyth showed a few brief flashes of what he can do when he has the ball at his feet, but we looked so slack and off the pace, and never looked like scoring. The few times we got into decent positions, the players seemed to panic and take wild swings instead of picking a pass. Walsall really should have won that game. We need a massive performance on Tuesday.

Desperately in need of a playmaker type of midfielder is the short comment. Not in the mood for the long version!

Ruined my weekend that.
We are absolutely bang out of form and playing within ourselves. Unfortunately we are playing teams that are all bang in form and oozing with confidence.
The only consolation is that we aren't losing.

I think the lack of runners “sprinting into space” indicates a lack of energy personally - you maybe see it differently? In terms of “ effort” , I mistakenly left off the “ s”! ie more “ efforts” ( on goal)!

Where has keeping the ball on the ground gone - we started this way with success? I think we have enough skill to make this work whereas we don't win enough of the balls we hoof, or throw, into a packed defence with tall, solid defenders. Smith wins a fair few headers but what is point if there is no one there to pick up on them?

I think with Smith there is a tendency to go long ball all the time.
I like the harassing and pressing play. Not saying Smith can't do that but a front three of Archibald on the left, Drinan in the middle, Smyth on the right (with Ruel interchangeable in all 3 positions) would give us a lot of attacking pace.

Smith wins a fair few headers but what is point if there is no one there to pick up on them? “Smith wins headers but what’s the point if there is no one to pick them up”. Been pretty much the case all season. But his winning headers stats look good. Best not go there, I went down this route before. we seem to have resorted to a lot of hoof ball. And not very good hoofs at that. Our midfield lacks creativity. Hector has gone off the boil, Clay never will be creative, nor will Pratley. Probably why we end up with a long ball that achieves nothing. Smyth may make a huge difference. We got bullied today by a strong, physical team who to their credit played with some skill too. We were second best.
