More likely my dad to be in the crowd, he used to go and watch the Os back then.
Goalkeeper Woods must have been young then, later on he became known as ''Fatty Woods'' !
I have been ill for the last week, recovering from an operation and still feeling very weak, plus left knee gave way, very painful and still unable to even hobble around, so an awful last week or so.
Sorry to hear that Den. I hope the pain subsides. Best wishes for your recovery. Third throat operation this year, takes it out of you and this time round it has really knocked the stuffing out of me. Lost a stone in weight over the last 6 months and at present no appetite and feeling very weak. This time having this operation reacted on both my knees and the left knee was agony, pain going off now and i am managing to put weight on my legs again and walk slowly around the house. I wonder if being as I hardly ate anything if taking my statins on an empty stomach reacted and gave me such horrific knee joint pains ? I stopped taking the statins after three days and the pains in my knees started to get better. Been taking statins for high cholesterol for around 2 years and up to now no reactions but i think taking them without food in my belly caused this reaction, just a theory ? After having my ruptured right knee ( acl injury ) for over 50 years it has made me realise that i cannot carry on anymore with two knees like this and once I get somewhere back to normal shape will have to investigate about having knee replacement surgery. Thanks mate for your message above, I really appreciate it !

Be very very careful about having knee replacents dennisrofe.the pain is just short of agony,I am still having procedures and various types of pain relief after four years.Walking or sitting is very painful,in the wrong position for any period of time is so painful you can only moeve the limb with extreme pain.My life has been ruind of the things that I liked most in life, one of them being walking.Winter brings on a special pain,it is getting nearer the time when I will not be able to make it to the O's. The right knee was fine, but the second a disaster. The right knee however is being more problematic with the pressure created by the right. Hope your ACL pain improves and you get your appetite back.I had the same problem with weight loss, lost over two stone but gradually got back to twelve stone,a little under that now but I have been decorating with extreme caution but still could not avoid the painful consequences.I have been prescribed a low dose of the drug prebaglin for the ongoing pain by the pain clinic.Does not work that well but makes you a bit calmer and it does help sleep. Also gives you the munchies.

Ate my first proper bit of food for 10 days today, a home cooked 1/4 pound beef burger in the bun, complete with all the trimmings, very tasty and went down well.
Up to now no appetite at all my throat operation but had to start eating soon as was starting to getting very weak. The operation was my third throat operation since May this year, cleaning out dodgy nodules, cells etc. Yes do not think I would go into having a knee replacement lightly. You are one who it did not go well for, but the majority I know who have it are pleased with it. I have put up with this wrecked knee for over 50 years ( sustained after an over the top foul on me that busted my ACL ) and it is now an arthritic bone on bone joint and you can hear it grinding away, especially when i walk up stairs, agony at times especially in the cold winter weather. The left one lost half the cartilage in around year 2000 in a freak accident helping someone to lift a heavy kitchen unit. I shall research well to look for surgeons with a good track record, thanks for your concerns and hope you find some relief from your own knee pains.

I think it is just one of those that did not work,of all those I spoke to with both done, the second had the biggest failure.Surprising how much the rest of the body needs the knees to have normal body movement.I do most of my gardening laying on my side, the difficulty comes when trying to get up. Sympathise with you on your throat problem,a sore throat is one of the things I dread.Pleased that you are recovering and having a decent meal.Having the same type tonight,Hestons beefburgers poached eggs and fried tomato's plus freshly baked rolls,a prebaglin tablet then off to bed and watch you tube and perhaps a little football.I prefer the Europa league to the Champions League.

Starting to eat now and feeling a bit stronger, I just hope that the throat problem can be sorted out long term, removing dodgy nodules/areas that can change to life threatening issues.

I reckon the fact that Woolwich Arsenal were allowed to move to Highbury also had a bad financial impact on The Os. Definitely not a northern term. It has its origins from a hillside battle in the Boer War. On Higham Hill in Walthamstow there was natural mound of roughly half an acre that was originally called “ Hilly Field” which was nicknamed “ Spion Kop” around about that time . Apparently before there was a council estate built on the site around Gurney Close there were excellent views across the reservoirs looking toward Tottenham marshes!👍 This is like the history channel. The reservoirs are are a good marker for knowing where you are coming into Heathrow. Unless you're sitting on the other side, and at night, haha. I've never seen the O's ground from a plane, probably directly underneath.

The Orient pitch now is less than a whisper, many will recall the squelch of water and mud as the players neared your spectating position.

This is definately Millfields Road, and the 'big hill' is the O's Spion Kop. A huge gun was installed on the Kop during the Great War. Ibet RW would like the huge gun to still be in place so he could blow away the Bell ends that want to stifle his enthusiasm🗼

This must be proper rare footage. The comment on the video says its Lea Bridge Rd and Mill fields. Anyone know any of the players in the video? This from Simon Inglis' classic 'Football Grounds of Britain'; "Peacetime brought in right royal crowds, despite Orient now having Arsenal and West Ham on their patch. As a result, in 1923 Orient felt confident enough to undertake a £30,000 rebuilding programme. They extended and concreted the Spion Kop, on the north side, and sold their Main Stand to Wimbledon. In its place was built a 3,000 seat stand with a five span, multi-pitched roof, similar to stands built by the same firm, Humphreys, for Arsenal and Charlton. But it soon became apparent that Orient had overreached themselves, and in 1927 they had no choice but to let a greyhound racing syndicate take over the ground's lease and lavish £80,000 on laying a track, covering the Kop (with more multi-span covers) and installing all the paraphernalia required by this newly emergent sport. The Millfields Road football stadium thus became the Clapton Greyhound Stadium. But behind the scenes all was not well. Orient were barred from training on the pitch and even from using the boardroom on match days. Reluctantly in 1930 they abandoned the home they had invested so much in and moved to the nearby Lea Bridge Speedway Stadium".
