Obviously I really like Richie wellens who has done a marvelous job thus far but yesterday he got it all wrong. I am not carping after the event , I said when the team was announced that it was a lopsided selection and the way we performed bore that out. we really missed archibald not only for his attacking prowess but for his work rate and tackling back. Playing with two strikers and nobody out right meant we were effectively only attacking down one side, and let’s face it lofting balls up the middle to the pair of them was a waste of time. In my view he should of played with one striker and with Sadlier wide right.. I thought we were really fortunate to find ourselves two up as I thought that was just about the worst performance of the season, and in all honesty a Cambridge side that hadn’t scored in 5 games looked far more threatening than us. I couldn’t understand taking our best ball winner off bringing on Thompson and pushing James into midfield. Richie tried to justify his substitutions by saying the players were tired but why should they be tired when they haven’t played for two weeks. Another point I find inexplicable is why ogie never gets a shout , especially as he was our best performer last season. If throwing away 2 points in the last minutes wasn’t bad enough it looks like smyth is out again. Rant over.

Hard to argue any of that.
All he had to do was swap out Archibald for Sadlier or Smyth. And the team remains the same.
I thought Turns struggled against their number #34 and should have got hooked for Ogie.

Apart from the fact we were playing Colchester not Cambridge, I agree with much of what you say. Certainly a performance that was as lacking in energy and spark as any I’ve seen for a while. As for the substitutions being made because players were “ tired” I also find that odd - especially as before the game , Wellens was saying the break had done the players good and they were raring to go!

Don't wish to make excuses, also considering Colchester had the same conditions, but we are very much a fair weather team. Not just our style of play but our players ability. A muddy, sodden, sand covered pitch and rain doesn't really promote passing football. Yes, I'm sure other teams would play better in more favourable conditions too but crisp pitches and warmth encourages quick passing football. That said, we play in England throughout the winter months and so we need to perform in all conditions.
I was surprised Sadlier didn't start. He has skill, vision and strength. Saw no reason why he didn't start.

The substitutions certainly contributed to the draw (I was about to write 'loss' because that's what it felt like). Could it be as simple as wanting to give them time on the pitch to keep a strong bench happy? If so it was very misguided.

I think the fact is RW thought that the game done and dusted at 2-0 Colchester were no threat and we were cruising. The first Colchester goal was a real fluke really their attacker gets a hopeful head to a ball and it somehow finds its way into the net. After that due to the substitutions we were all over the place and basically went to pieces.First time I’ve seen us shoot our selves in the foot for a long long time and RW won’t be happy with it.I don’t think we’ll see it happen again this season

Football is always how you react to certain setbacks Yes I thought it was our worse home performance off the season by far At 2-0 I don't think anyone in the ground saw those 4 minutes happening same as the 4 minutes against Newport I don't like the same outlet ball everytime to Sweeney on the left I thought Viggeroux's kicking was wayward yesterday and even Prem teams get caught out at the back when teams press them We are Still in the box seat and the next four games will define out season In my opinion we are certainly gauranteed in the playoffs now.butwe all know the agony of those

I think the opening post has it pretty well nailed, but I would like to add a bit more
Taking off El Miz really mystified me. He's the engine of this team, and you take him off, you lose an awful lot
Next, something that has annoyed me for ages. Ruel is constantly being played out of position, by previous managers, as well as the current one. Ruels best position is centre forward. He's played on the left wing, on the right wing, in the number 10 role, during this season. If he were played in his favoured position he would score plenty of goals. I couldnt believe it when RW hooked him, but left Drinan on. Ruel is a million times better than Drinan.......I just dont understand the managers love for Drinan.
Overall we seemed very nervous, opting for the safe pass, time after time, rather than trying a forward pass into the danger area
One last thing, I would like to see Sadlier in Moncurs number 10 role, instead of Moncur, who flatters to deceive. Moncs cant last a full 90 mins, and he's so negative with his choice of pass, always sideways, hardly ever penetratingly forwards.
