Hi, an Oxford United fan here in peace. Our club is desperately trying to secure a new stadium site, or we’ll be homeless from 2026. I know the Kassam is held in good memory with yourselves, but let’s be honest it’s a terrible experience for us fans! With that in mind, if anyone on here would be happy to fill in a short online questionnaire being run by Oxfordshire County Council, our fans would be massively grateful. It only takes about five minutes or so to fill in the short online form with positive answers at www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/C8O8VI/ by 23 July 2023. The benefits to you as away fans will be: A sustainable stadium right next door to a major railway station in Oxford Parkway (a short train ride from Oxford City Centre) and opposite a large Park&Ride site, which would make it one of the easiest, greenest grounds to get to in the UK. Getting from your side of London to the Kassam is a nightmare currently. However the train ride from Stratford to Oxford station is only 1hr 20. It’s then only a 5 minute ride from Oxford station to Oxford parkway (next to the planned stadium site). This means a day out in Oxford before the game is actually possible. The transport links from the city centre to The Kassam are nearly non existent. Proper drinking, food and entertainment options at the ground itself, compared to embarrassing facilities currently on offer at our current ground or nearby. A modern, well-designed ground which will help to support a proper atmosphere, rather than the soulless, three-side ground we have now. A few sentences on any of the above for the survey’s final comment box would be really helpful in showing our County Council that the new ground will be sustainable, increase spending in Oxfordshire, and provide excellent facilities for home AND away fans. We all appreciate the value of a good away day, whether we’re potentially playing you in a league or cup game from 2026 onwards. Taking a few minutes to support a fellow club before it becomes homeless in just a few years would be massively appreciated. Thank you. Best of luck for this season!

I've moved this from the Away section into the Home section as it needs more views.

I watched a YouTube vid on this ground only 2 days ago. I've been to Oxford for Speedway a few times but never for football.
Their lease or whatever it is runs out in 2 years and it doesn't look like an easy ground to get to if you haven't got a car or bike.
No one wants a 3 side ground that's hard to get to. Their proposed new ground seems to tick all the boxes. It's down to the council now I believe.

I liked the old ground, went there many times, even watched Spurs play there in a reserve game when working away in Oxford. The mighty atom played for Spurs in that game. Pleased to help most lower league clubs in anyway I can, save two. Guess who those two clubs are, should not be difficult.

The word sustainable puts me off somewhat on a second read. What does that mean, playing in front of as few fans as possible,or to go the whole hog with no spectators.

Was chatting with Mrs dOh and a group of their fans after the match. They were Pleased for us, we were sad for them. But absolutely no bad feelings what so ever as we chatted our way back to the cars. Don’t doubt there was some aggro, emotions high on both sides. But I didn’t see any at all. Overblown if you ask me. Just the usual idiots. All clubs have them, including us. Best we just move on.

This should put you in the picture. If this guy thinks this is the worst stadium he needs to get out more. Dim.

I’ll try and give you the short story! Firoz Kassam bought the club in 2001 for a £1 (we were in huge debt at the time) and then built the stadium. The 25 year lease was then given to the club. He sold the club in 2006 but is still the owner of the stadium to date. It’s a long story but the club (under various ownerships) have been trying to buy the stadium since he sold the club in 2006, but every effort has been unsuccessful. Kassam wants to knock the stadium down and build houses/flats on the site. He is already selling off parcels of land at the current site and will make a fortune when he knocks down the current stadium to build houses. The lease expires in 2026 and we have nowhere to go. Our current ownership have found a potential site but the county council have been met with some resistance from local NIMBY’s.

The same Oxford that attacked our fans when we got promoted at the Kassam. Bore off I did anticipate that coming up. I can only apologise for some of our idiot fans who did that. It was an emotional day but that doesn’t excuse embarrassing behaviour like that. However I think it’s important to remember there were 10k home fans that day, and like most of these situations it was only a minority of idiots that caused trouble. Obviously rivalries and grudges will always be held, and that’s completely fair and normal. But I hope that as fans of a club who have also gone through tough times, you can put aside this and help save another lower league club from going under.

Thanks for the reply.
You need to get this out there as I never knew that you had such a fight on your hands. I must admit I never did like that ground, I hated it when Hearn turned our ground to 3 sides and I refused to come whilst it was like that out of protest.
I will do the survey for you.
Why people bring up that game in a negative its not needed in my opinion and you are right it's a few idiots who are not representative of the wider fan base.
