I think ‘transfer window mistake’ is wrong term for fletcher. He was a good player before he joined us and was a good player after he left. Whatever mistakes were made with him were made in managing him whilst he was here. The buying and selling decisions seemed perfectly reasonable in the circumstances.

Didn't he have some sort of illness soon after he got here
which kept him out of the team for a while. He never really
got going for us after that.

I know a few will disagree with me, but in years to come, I think Drinan will also be considered a transfer mistake. Apart from a short purple spell at the beginning, hes contributed very little. Very few goals, and even less assists, and before anyone says, his strong running upsets opponents, I will say i totally refute that.
Im pretty sure we paid a transfer fee for him too. I remember going on the Ipswich message board just after we bought him, and there were many mocking threads about how rubbish he was, and that 'we'd even paid for him' followed by lots of laughter.
I would love him to come good, but I doubt that will happen im afraid

I know a few will disagree with me, but in years to come, I think Drinan will also be considered a transfer mistake. Totally agree. Would've been happy if we'd shipped him out over the summer, but I suppose nobody was really sure if Ruel could step up and we'd need another option. |

Also when playing with Big Smith up top he looked a different animal and they had a good partnership. However I will concede that I don't think he's stepped up to League One level and I no longer think our style of play suits him. |

What seems to be the difference now. Whether it be using moneyball style recruitment or old skool type scouting, is that we seem to be getting it more right than wrong.
And that's probably about the best you can hope for. If we got every transfer dealing spot on, we'd motor through the league's.

Also (not sure if it's just me) but he seems to be looking less and less interested with every game he comes on. |
