I was right, they did run out of steam and we finished above them. Next. They ran 2nd or 3rd all season. They finished 2nd to a better team. That is not running out of steam. End of. matches 27-33 they won one game. Matches 36-40 they didn't win a game, I'd say that's running out of steam and if you take from 27 to 40 they won 3 games. Facts.

So after tonight looks like Stevenage will be third and just 1 point off the league leaders. I'm afraid Steve Evans makes Richie look like an amateur. Lots of you on this forum predicted we would end up higher, fat chance ! It’s incredible, they score goals ! I’ll own up to being the one who felt we would end up above Stevenage. Not I might add because I think they are poor. I’ve been impressed with their building from the start of last season. Evan’s has done a fantastic job. They ain’t a fancy team and all too often give the lions share of possession away. But they are very effective when they have the ball. I felt we would be above them because we have better players. still think we do in general. But we certainly don’t play to our potential. Agree with most of the above. Where they are better than us is in the forward line. If we had Reid, we would score more and win more

Stevenage were our National League Salford City. They chased, threatened to catch us and then couldnt. They were at times ahead of us in league 2 but then we pulled away.
Stevenage have done incredibly well. We should acknowledge this but with this management and ownership team, I really believe we will overtake, as we did with Salford.

Assuming we survive this season, which we will, and Stevenage don’t get promoted, which I doubt, then going forward we will continue to grow stronger. My feelings about Stevenage and their recruitment is that Evans has built a solid league 1 side capable of doing well this season but not one that will improve much beyond what they are now. When I looked their recruitment is was one of building for this season and not for the future. We are far more future looking. We will surpass them.

Bold statement doh…I think Stevenage are far better than done give them credit for..good recruitment from the wily old Evans..They are flying this season because they deserve to be..I know some would like to see Evans fall flat on his face but like I keep saying give credit where it’s due. There is no evidence that we will be better than them. There wouldn’t even be a thread about them in this forum if they weren’t doing as good as they are.All I can say is that they’ve found a formula that is working for them,so good luck to them.

Their formula under Evans has been to bring in solid players capable of competing in the league in which they reside. Was impressed at the start of last season, and this. And they make changes accordingly. Do well now stuff. I’m not knocking it. Don’t like Evans at all, the last two seasons there is no denying he has done and continues to do a fantastic job. I’d like us to be top four. But I would not swap managers. But I feel he lives in the here and now with his squads. I believe we have a set up geared for the future. So in time under our current ownership and management our potential is the greater. Could be wrong of course. Time will tell.

I don't know what the financial situation is at Stevenage, did they spend much getting to where they are now (inc last season)?

I'm looking forward to the return match up at Stevenage. We have definitely improved since they toppled us at Brisbane Road, and I think we might be in with a chance.

I hope so, but we struggle against that style of play.

Not in the least bit unhappy. Just trying to prove that Stevenage did not run out of steam last season. Also find it difficult to understand all the negative thoughts and bitterness on this forum towards Stevenage.

Also find it difficult to understand all the negative thoughts and bitterness on this forum towards Stevenage. No bitterness. Not liking their style of play is a reasonable comment, I don’t like it but accept it’s effective.. Not liking Evans is understandable, I don’t like him but acknowledge his success. But in the main most comments about them and their progress, and Evans as a manager, has been complimentary. one of my favourite away games too.
