Possession football ain't half boring. If it had been like that in the 1960`s when I started going to games I don't think I would have got the bug.

Possession football ain't half boring. If it had been like that in the 1960`s when I started going to games I don't think I would have got the bug. I much prefer keepers passing the ball so the team can play forward through midfield than the historic situation where keepers simply hoofed the ball upfield for the big guys to fight for it. absolutely nothing wrong in the current approach. I also don’t object to teams switching play whilst trying to create attacking opportunities. Which sometimes means going backwards. Defences today are far more system savvy, fitter and organised, possession is a byproduct of better defensive set ups. where it goes wrong for me and shows teems as clueless is when this possession is maintained for the sake of it, generally called dominating the ball, not helped by managers seeing possession as a massive indicator of performance. It’s not. What matters is what you do when you have the ball, not how much of the ball you have, the latter can be like watching paint dry. Must be soul destroying to play. And describes us. Boring far too often. Fun when your winning, tedious when your not.
