With the Jan window about to open and knowing what we have and what we need to compete or step up, as manager of Leyton Orient what would you do? What positions would you be investing in? Let’s be serious about this and try to work in a considered and structured manner, like keeping it to a budget and not just saying let’s get this person in despite him being valued at 1 million pounds.
So as we keep within the clubs mantra, what choices would you make for incoming players. I will kick it off.
Centre Forward - I would make this the priority. It’s a role we’ve had to fill for a few years now and it’s important we get this one right. It’s gonna cost us dough to do this, so we can’t splash cash on someone who won’t make a difference. I’d be looking at Championship clubs with players on the fringes not getting a look in or reduced game time. These players would be more cost effective to us as playing can outweigh cash and with the selling club subsidising the wages this could be a good move. This is where I would look.
Wide player - As we’ve lost Graham for the season which is a massive blow in my opinion as he was really starting to look the part and whilst some criticised him, it’s only now they see the folly of their words as we’ve lost a big part of what we were doing and where we were going in both style and league placing. I would be searching for quality wide players in the premier league, players chomping at the bit to get out on loan and show their worth. A point to prove as they look to demonstrate that they are good enough to remain at that level and show that they’ve improved on their journey to break through to the first team squad.
That’s what I would do, the two positions we need and require. I wouldn’t change anything else other than wide creativity with the odd goals and a forward to score, hold up play etc. This is an interim window and one where wholesale changes need not happen, I’d leave that till the summer. With these two additions we would move up the table, solidify our position and give us the platform to grow into for next season.

No cash for the quality of player you are looking for.

A centre forward would be lovely, but more than that, we need more experience in the team. We need a leader who can take games by the scruff of the neck and is actually good enough and fit enough to be playing week in, week out at this level. If we can land a player like that, I don't care what position they play or if we sign anyone else.
I hear Casemiro is available 😁

Another wide player is No1 priority for me, with a lack of budget that means a loan imo. Agree with the need for an additional attacking option, but reckon a CB is needed more, as I don’t see RW looking to renew the loan for Cooper.

I find it hard to understand how the O's scouting system is unable to unearth decent material at a cost within budgets. This as O's are situated in the main City of UK with a number of clubs within the M25 at all levels of the EFL. I think loan deals with Premiership clubs are out reach financially. This even with the Parent club paying a substantial amount of the wages. But saying that clubs have large squads. Players are not getting game time. Perhaps players attitude generally has changed, they would prefer to sit on a bench for the season rather than getting some game time at a Div1 club. Going to games in January at places in the far North which they have never heard of is not to their liking. The players on loan at present are from clubs in Wales, Brighton etc. Surely it is more cost efficient to try and arrange loans with players living in and around London. Reduces travelling for the player and living away from their home base, with extra costs incurred for accommodation and travelling.

I agree with all of that oso and bill but I’m afraid it’s all too obvious to everyone ,even at the club . It is a fact we are limited in funds and I don’t want to see us go deeper into debt risking everything . Unfortunately RW has made some mistakes with his line ups and tactics but like everyone ,hee is still learning .

I do not have the answer, just trust that to those who do.They know who is available at the right cost and is willing to come to the O's.We have a style of football and need those that will fit the system. If a mistake is made with the choice heaven help them, but we all cheer a winner. From National League to league 1 must have taken a hefty whack on the coffers.Prices stood still for a while and this seasons rise was not that much. This time last year who would not have taken the position we are now in knowing what players would leave.

If I was the manager I would have resigned after 10 mins against Bolton ☹️

Defensively, only 6 teams have conceded more than us; and 7 teams have scored less than us. So we are about right in 16th.
So whilst we all want a new forward we should address that we are too easy to create chances against. In 7 league games we have conceded 2 or more goals, only getting one point out of those games (1/21). Unlike last season where we had so many clean sheets
But the fun is talking about the players we’d like. Firstly play Sanders and Galbraith more - signings we’ve made who have not featured enough. Up front I would leave Ruel (should have 6 more goals thus changing our points and position drastically) and Pigott (think he could come good) this season. But behind and to the sides I’d look to League 2 for Dan Crowley, Noah Chilvers or even a return for Dan Kemp. All a league below so attainable, adaptable, good ages to prove themselves at this level. Happy with Crowley or Chilvers
Defensively more about the setup and system but I’d love a loan for Junior Tchamadou - new manager at Stoke and played only 10 games so far since his move from colchester. A league 1 loan for half a season would be good for all. Charlie Goode from Brentford to replace the Cooper loan.
So many London teams to take advantage of - been linked with Jamie Donley from spurs but the Chelsea, arsenal and west ham academies are brimming right now Cozier Duberry and azeez from arsenal avaialable for loans. Also Myles Peart Harris on loan at FGR last season but could be a nice foil to el miz - from brentford also.
There’s some names, dunno their wages, our budget, availability. Out would go Cooper, Moncur, Beckles, Thompson, Drinan.

This is fantasy football, right, where the club has the resources and the requisite players are magically available?
I don't think we need a Centre Forward. We need to create more chances for the ones we have, because, like all League One strikers, they can't be expected to dispatch every rare half chance that comes their way. Forde, by the way, for a lad of 19 is looking better and better and will be a player at a higher level.
I would replace Jordan Graham with a loaner, send Cooper back and sign another centre-back and give the backline more protection with a defensive midfielder who can win the ball and give it to one of the others. We are expecting too much of El Miz in the current set-up so no wonder he looks knackered.
