Taken a lead from Mungo a while back I thought I would take a dip into the Transfermkt (if you can believe this information) on line site to see what was available as regard young wingers. Also the DoF alluded to during the recent Orient hour. This is what the O's look for in players, where they received their training at a club and learnt their Trade. It seems a while since Marvin Ekpiteta was plucked out of non League. He has since forged a successful career at Blackpool. So I'm opening myself up for ridicule, (this is not detracting from the O's professional Scouts work) but here goes.
I have picked young players that were originally with pro clubs or Academies.
Mo Dabre Right winger age 20 Italian Training Academy Volenti, Swindon & Chelmsford.
Ody Alfa Left winger age 24 QPR, Aldershot & Chelmsford.
Gianni Crichlow Left winger age 25 QPR, Torquay & Chelmsford.

Getting to the league from non league is so difficult,a lot of the time with the players it is temperament and the ability to be immature. When they do awaken from the torpor the bus has long gone.League football for the owners is a very very expensive business.

Crichlow can't get in Chelmsford's team and is on loan at Braintree and injured.
Dabre and Alfa are nowhere near the players we need.
We badly need a pacy striker and a winger, We are hoping to sign a young Spurs striker next week and are looking at more experienced options for a wide player but at least two will have to go out on loan to free up some money to make it happen..

I know we're talking of different levels but let's just look a Paul Smyth. At QPR it just doesn't work for him. We could all see it, Richie probably told him as much, Ling too, and deep down he probably knows it. He was very much suited to Orient. Expectations were lower, he could get away with being a bit injury prone, he was loved, had his own position, a manager who knew how to play him, and a young family at a very welcoming club. But he went back to QPR. We all know why. He could have been tearing up League One for us, playing week in and week out, starring the show. I'm not bitter about it. He made his choice, I'd have him back on loan in a shot. A lot of this is down to the player, that I don't dispute, but there's a lot to be said about having the right staff and environment around you. On a personal note I've failed in organisations where I know I could've done more either because my hands were tied or I was a miss match for what they wanted. I think anyone generally playing down to the National League South could potentially step up. With the right backing. Potentially. Needless to say I don't think Jordan Maguire Drew is going to come back and reach the Champions League with Fulham or something like that. Naturally there are levels.

I'm searching but there was a player mentioned on hera while ago.
We shouldn't get giddy when dealing with Premier League loanees. It rarely works as most of the Premier League loanees are just stooges and makeweights to fill a team for their 'better' players. These players are then released like those mentioned above and never make it back.
No point just grooming a Harry Kane on his own. He needs 10 other players around him to play a match.
No doubt Orient do it too at all levels from under 8's to the reserves. You need 11 to field a team which means that if we have a potential star or two, we need to pad out a team with 8 or 9 others.

Why didn't I ask Father Christmas for Paul Smyth to return in January. Orient complete.

Jamie Donley? We were linked with previously. He has since been on Tottenham’s bench a couple time this season

I’m not sure where this narrative of Paul Smyth having a bad time at QPR is coming from? Sure QPR aren’t having a very good season, but Smyth seems to be doing alright on a personal level. He’s played 18 times in the championship so far this season, which is more than he managed in 3 years in his 1st spell there (sure, not all as starts, but it’s a decent amount of playing time anyway). He’s also won 5 caps for Northern Ireland this season, more than doubling his total to 8 caps. Plus the extra money too , even with QPR in a relegation battle, I can’t see that Smyth is regretting his decision.

That's fair enough. He was just the first name I thought of.
