A few off their game today. Soteriou, Brown, Sweeney. Beckles his usual commanding self. Agyie is some player. Others were solid enough if not spectacular. the unbeaten run continues. Best part. Made Reading green park train by two minutes after a long dash and then made the Andover connection by 2 minutes. Most exciting part of the day. And I like their ground and facilities. How exciting, just wish I could have been with you to enjoy those exciting moments. I can only imagine where the best part of the day was you able to make your train connections. I am so pleased LOL😅

If we played like I know we can, that game was there for the taking, especially after taking the lead. But with a number of players off the boil it was hard work. I kept waiting for us to step up a gear but it just didn’t happen. Even at less than our best it was good enough for a point. But exciting? Nah. A few moments but that’s it

I know we won but a fan's view of the game is irreplaceable to get a sense of how things lie. When we were 1-0 up, looking at the other games in the league, I felt euphoric. The playoff dream (and ultimate success) filled the room. But "a few moments" it was. I think the squad, especially the younger players, are finding the pressure quite tough. But they're keeping the pace up and learning along the way. Nitty gritty points here and there are important. This is an establishment season in League One. A good result and performance in that context.

I don't think Richie set us up wrong at the start. I think Reading surprised us with what appeared to be a formation of 4 upfront and scant regard to defending. And we struggled for about 30 minutes to change it up.
Sweeney and to a lesser extent Galbraith were chronically exposed sometimes 2 or 3 against 1 with both Theo and Forde miles up the pitch. And Azeez is a decent player too.
Bit of a Chess game.
I don't think Sweeney was hooked because he had a bad game, the new tactics in the second half just suited James more. Squad game isn't it. All players are needed.
We also had the absolute run of the midfield all game because Reading didn't use any central midfielders at all.
I was surprised how shot shy Idris is. A few times he could have pulled the trigger.
Ruel was anonymous in that role, Brown I thought was ok but not one of his better games and the new lad who came on looked really good and our 2nd half relentless attacking didn't stop when he replaced Theo.
A draw away at Reading is a good result considering their form and the fact they beat Derby on Tuesday. You really can't win them all.

Richie talks about why Sweeney was subbed in his post match, I’ve posted the interview up.

I was surprised how shot shy Idris is. It is, without doubt, the biggest flaw in his game. If only our midfield could chip in a bit more with odd goal we’d be a much stronger outfit.

Fisch, he wouldn’t shoot at Al then. Nick….er we didn’t win. I just don’t understand playing sotirou, forde and agai together at the expense of a midfielder. Sotirou does nothing in that role. Play pratley and moncour half a game each . We were much better when we subbed sotirou and Sweeney , and sorry but Sweeney was having a terrible game , a million miles from his previous outing.

Sweeney is a real dilemma for RW. He needs game time to improve his consistency but when he is poor, and he was against Reading, he becomes a real weak link. Despite all that I just cannot see him ahead of James and Hunt.

Yes, you're right, we didn't win. I think I was still ecstatic after we went one up.
