If your question is posed in regard to the previous “ serious misconduct” charge then I personally have absolutely no problem whatsoever with this signing. The guy made a mistake, was punished and should be allowed to move on. If it’s his ability that you are questioning then - as always- I’ll wait and see him first before jumping to conclusions.

I meant overall (charge included). Either way, I agree with you in terms of the charge. Most people deserve a second chance and I will judge him accordingly. Seems like he regrets what he did. Certainly seems a good player.

Redemption. A lovely thing. Give him his second chance. Hope he grabs it with both hands. Id hate to be judged by the language most of us used in the 70’s and 80’s. There, but for the grace of God.

Ricky Otto had been in jail for armed robbery when we signed him.

At face value this seems a decent signing in an area where we are short of people. No issues at all, in fact it could turn out to be an excellent signing.

From the FA report on "the incident":
Having consumed high levels of alcohol, JS (Jack Simpson) had returned to his room around 3:00am-4:00am. He got up and went down for breakfast around 6:00am - 6:30am. JS was sat with CCFC teammates Keiron Evans (‘KE’) and Rubin Colwill (‘RC’) when RL approached the table and sat down with his breakfast. At that moment, according to RL (Rohan Luthra), JS said to him – 'Oh Yeah, and you, you’re a dirty P**i'. The use of the words ‘dirty P**i’ was corroborated by KE and RC. The comment appeared to be inexplicable as there had been no conflict or animosity between the two during or prior to the trip.
RL, hurt and angered by the comment, got up and sat at another table after having told JS not to speak to him and that he was 'out of order'. KE and RC expressed their shock at the remark and said to JS, 'you can’t say that'. JS acknowledged this and said, “yeah, I shouldn’t have said that”.
The Team headed to the airport shortly after. KE reported that when at the airport he was stood behind JS in a queue at a coffee shop and they spoke about the incident. JS said words to the effect of, 'I’m so stupid. I don’t know why I said that. My girlfriend is from that country as well.'
According to KE, JS was clearly disappointed with himself and said he was going to speak with RL and apologise. When JS attempted to engage with RL at the airport, RL told JS that he was a 'racist' and refused to talk to him. RL did not report the incident until after The FA had delivered a presentation at CCFC on Thursday 27th July 2023.
Sounds like a drunk attempt at a joke gone wrong. Hopefully that's actually the case and the rest of the team sees it that way too. I don't think booze is much of an excuse for things like this but I think the immediate recognition of having done wrong shows good character. We've all said things we regret. We don't all have the bolognese to apologise right away.

Jack made a stupid comment from an impaired system that morning. He immediately realised what he said was wrong and attempted to rectify it. That doesn't strike me as a bad person, silly - yes. What can he do about it now? Nothing. What's said is said. You age and, hopefully, improve.
I'm only commenting on this thread as he seems remorseful in his video and so I suggest we just leave it. Nothing positive will come from this.

Providing his team mates accept him, I’ve no issues with signing someone trying to rebuild his career after making a mistake.

If i could talk to my younger self now I'd have said and done so many things differently. Its a tricky one really but i would have thought he's had a long time to reflect on his actions.Good luck to him won't be easy and he'll get some stick from opposition players trying to wind him up during games i would imagine

I experienced a similar incident a few years ago with my now ex mrs, we were sitting at the breakfast table one morning when I meant to ask her to pass me the ketchup, thing is and I don't know how it happened but when I opened my mouth the words - "you've ruined my life you fat ugly bitch" came out.

On the interview a suspension is mentioned. Any idea what that means? Who suspended him? All I can see is that he left Cardiff and is a free agent.
Can he play? Or was he banned for a certain amount of games that would only come into play if he was signed with a club?

As for the player signing for us.. I trust the club to do the right thing.
Seems to have had a strange career though.
He's 27 but only played 49 games albeit at an extremely high level.
Before today I can't say I'd ever heard of him or the incident.
The way the club have put it out there, been upfront and honest, asked the right questions in the interview, showed remorse, low-key announcement, etc.
It's been handled the right way. So it's over to Jack now to rebuild his career. Show us what you can do lad.

I agree with the other comments, he deserves a second chance
Looking at his career however, I don't get the enthusiasm for the signing. He's 27 and played just 49 senior games. At all 3 of his clubs, he's made a few appearances and then faded away, does this suggest he's not very good?
