I think we can all see the sense in this decision and I have no complaints especially if he is moving towards a coaching role. If however he is simply in as a player then he needs to contribute more minutes on the field of play. He is not the only senior pro in the dressing room and who knows who is available out there as a potential replacement. He needs to contribute on the pitch as well as in the dressing room if he has signed solely as a player. At Derby he was our best player by far, that's at the season end and he still wanted it badly. For sure he can't do what he did 10 years ago, but what's he's giving now is still superb. Agree. I have no issue with his performances when he plays. But he needs to play more or he becomes a luxury as there may well be others out there who would be as good but able to play more. It’s not about him but about how he compares with a potential replacement. Limited budget, lots of games. We’ve just had a season with players not available, we don’t want to start a new season with someone likely to be unavailable for much of the time. He needs to be available. Unless he is moving to coaching, then it’s from a different budget. |

A club in our position budget wise will find it difficult to accommodate anyone if they are only able make infrequent or cameo appearances and that would be my concern in Darren’s case ( and that of George Moncur too). |

If I had players like
Alan Hudson
Matt Le Tissier
Glen Hoddle
Frank Worthington
I would not of remarked if they were not chasing back as I would not want them doing that as part of the team tactics .
In our midfield apart from Moncur I want our players to chase back DP did that.
Moncur stat look good in terms of goals and assists within the min played and results
GM does not need to burn energy even though I did notice he does try and defend when he has needed to
All players have different attributes in my head a good team has a mixture of skills - a good manager would develop these collective skills.

You’re probably right. I’ve no doubt RW issues instructions based on what he wants and what players are capable of bearing in mind their current fitness levels and niggles they may be carrying. |
