I have a lot going on in life at the moment and while I'm happy to shell out between £35-£40 a month on this place, it is something that I hardly use at the moment. In the future I'll be more active again. We've been going for 11 years now (older than my kids). And it's been a hell of an 11 years! I really don't login or view over there now, as I barely do here. Appreciate all of that. I made the forum I administer read only recently as I had enough after nearly 20 years. Some forum members have been behind an alternative which is totally and utterly bonkers and attracted a pile of nutters! Maybe they appreciate my firm steer now 😉

Every so often I ban and delete people on here. None this year as far as I can remember so it doesn't happen that often. Usually it's because of the incessant droning and whining on about something to.me rather than users being offensive to each other. I'm not blind to it. I can see on here that certain users conflict and have a different style of posting, tone, context, etc. But I prefer, where possible, to let you all work it out between yourselves. And for the most part it works well. I have a lot going on in life at the moment and while I'm happy to shell out between £35-£40 a month on this place, it is something that I hardly use at the moment. However it is a great resource and I enjoy all your posts when I do login. In the future I'll be more active again. We've been going for 11 years now (older than my kids). And it's been a hell of an 11 years! I really don't login or view over there now, as I barely do here. Let's keep this place active, above board, inoffensive, and respectful. That's all I ask. Not trying to kiss butt, but you do a great job on here as admin, you're fair, even and don't really take sides. The issue with the other board is that the mods were not even or fair and used the place as their own little stange clique. The whole place reminded me of a group of Marxist weirdos that would meet in the corner of a local pub every Tuesday and drink stange brands of alcohol. Not sure what it's like now though. Completely true, good comment. As to the other board, well IMO the other side is a bit better than it used to be.

You cannot even begin to compare the two boards,a large number of people on the other board only log on to post their extreme political views and seldom if ever attend Orient matches. Retaliate and you are banned. It’s a toxic board end of. What differentiates this board is that nobody engages in political discourse with the intention of upsetting others and in general we all stick to football matters. Sure we may not all see eye to eye when discussing players but in general it’s discussed without insults or threatening behaviour. Long may it continue that way.

Threads here frequently deteriorate into political discourse when not discussions about favourite players from the 1950s. I've read some batsh*t stuff on here. The main difference is this forum's "old man yells at cloud" vibes.

Agree with most of what you say osoldest. Nevertheless my impression is there are actually one or two on here that deliberately set hares running in order to cause upset. As you rightly say though in general we all stick to football matters and that’s what makes it the better of the two boards imho.👍

Rickie Gervais for example falls very much into that category. The issue as I see it are people willing to and wanting to take offence should someone have an opinion that they disagree with. The best discussions in my opinion are those where all participants can engage fully, say what they feel and at the same time appreciate that comments made are just an opinion and not intended to cause offence. But sadly the world works that way less and less. As for the other board, take away the inevitable insults and some good discussions and interesting points arise. It can be hugely interesting.

Dohnut, sure everyone has a right to discuss anything as they see it but this is an orient football forum and political discussion should be elsewhere in my opinion. Politics and religion only create division.

Politics and religion only create division. There is a place for other topics I feel. In a moment of close-season boredom I started the deviation thread. I’m staggered that it has reached 54 pages and still going strong. And great fun if I say so myself. It’s an amazing example of peoples creativity. Suggests to me there is a place for non-football related topics. I feel it’s not the topic but the behaviour that matters.

I seem to recall a post acknowledging just how well we handled such a topic recently. With the right behaviour there should be no taboo subjects. This forum, as opposed to the other one, tends to promote good behaviour. For sure sometime standards drop, but not for long.

With the “ right “ behaviour I agree. Personally though, I’ll try and continue to restrict my participation to topics on football - which in itself is contentious enough it seems!👍👍😆😆

The duplication /deviation and things not heard of anymore threads are a bit of fun to fill in while we wait for footie news. Hardly likely to start arguments. The other threads on politics, the price of fish or whatever I personally hope will not become a regular item on the forum as I have little interest in other boarders opinions on such matters and I find the lecturing tone adopted by some on such threads to be annoying. Okay I don't have to read them (as I'm sure will be pointed out) but move them to a sub heading for non football related matters is my suggestion.

I try to keep my politics off this forum and post them on the DT comments section, but sometimes one does have a little bit of political comment. I also bite if our board and DoF gets unfair comments as they cannot answer back.

Some like you have little interest in the opinion of others on non-football topics, understand that. Some, like me, are hugely interested in the views of others on a wide range of topics. I guess the difference is our view on whether both can coexist on one forum. I believe they can.

The current ratio of football related to non football related threads is probably about 20 to 1 so I can't really complain Doh - especially as we're in the silly period between seasons. I think the boarders on here understand what the board's main ethos is. So for now you're safe from a ban 😉

On the other Board, they're all for Freedom of Speech until someone comes out with something they don't like, then they're banned.

On the other Board, they're all for Freedom of Speech until someone comes out with something they don't like, then they're banned. And that fortissimo is the truth. All I would change is something the moderators don’t like. I know for a fact they (some mods) don’t like coming out worse in a debate and I’ve been know to get the better resulting in a ban of varying timescales or a vicious name change. Satisfying in a perverse way. But the freedom to express an opinion in a strong and positive way on the other forum can be very refreshing. Some interesting stuff results that would otherwise be lost, though usually threads end in insults.
