I played s bit of cricket in my younger days and was a decent bowler. For me it would be easier to bowl a ball naturally rather than run up and throw it.I can't see wh advantage would be gaiex by throwing Not the point. Despite a short run up his speed was nothing exceptional for a spinner, his action was quite unique, which in itself means batters were perhaps unfamiliar with his style and difficult to read. But again that in itself is not illegal. But an advantage, spinners disguising a delivery is vital. The point is simply was his action illegal based on the laws as they were are the time. No more and no less. If it was, the advantage he had was based on an illegal action. Many people including plenty of umpires called it illegal. As did many professionals and science who measured the angle of his arm on delivery. Yet the ICC thought otherwise. Thor is spot on regarding the laws and angles. Changing the laws to accommodate him simply re-enforced those who believed his action to be illegal. It was for a long time. Forgot about that.

Well Red on Sunday I wore a jumper to play cricket in as it was a bit nippy, first time I've worn one.
We've got out last game this Sunday and the weather is looking a bit suspect.

They have to BOWL, not throw the ball. Throwing the ball generates more pace as you can use the shoulder, elbow, hips and wrist to generate pace. Bowling you only use the shoulder and wrist, also more accuracy gained when throwing the ball rather than bowling it.

I love watching bowlers,a favourite was the great Abdul Qadir.A fast bowler is a joy to watch and the sideways on camera shows what the body goes through to deliver just one ball, the pressure on the on the leading foot, knee, back and knee is astounding. I was a slow right hand back of the wrist leggie as I have very supple wrists and still have a little bowl in the garden.

I used to love playing cricket years back. I was left hand fast medium and left batting. Fairly good at both but played less as life went on. I like the once mighty Essex-a bit hot n cold these days aren't they?

Somerset are back in the game and we can finally win the championship. 2 massive games to go and can we get this over the line or be the disappointed bride once more?

Here is the latest points table. Vitality County Championship - Division One Table
Surrey played 12, points gained 198 Somerset played 12, points gained 190 Hampshire played 12, points gained 171 Essex played 12, points gained 160

Essex docked 12 points over use of 'wide bat'
11 September 2024 Essex have been docked 12 points by the Cricket Discipline Commission after one of their players used an oversized bat, all-but ending their hopes of winning the County Championship. Feroze Khushi's bat failed an on-field dimensions check during his second innings of April's match at Nottinghamshire which Essex won by 254 runs. Essex took 20 points from the game but have now lost 12 of those due to Khushi's bat being wider than permitted. The points deduction leaves Essex 56 points behind Division One leaders Surrey, with two more matches remaining after the current round of games

I once played against Joel Garner in a testimonial game for Monty Lynch when i was a guest for my mates cricket team in Cockfosters.I never faced him when he bowled and he only ran in off one pace but he fielded at mid off and caught a catch above his head like he was catching a fly his hands were huge.A really smashing bloke who was playing along side Phil Tufnell and both were great company in the var afterwards

My eldest sons school undertook a cricket tour to Barbados and I took a holiday at the same time so I could watch them play etc.
Anyway they played at Joel Garners school which he pays for / sponors. I was like wow, what a gesture he's still making to his community.

As it will not be the mighty Essex let it be Somerset. But please let us play the County Championship in the long days of summer.I do remember the Gillette Cup being ruined many times by the late playing and who won the toss had so much of an advantage.I did like the John Player Sunday league as well, spent many a summer Sunday afternoon listening to the broadcast of the matches on Radio Essex.

County Cricket now is probably as good as it gets. Hampshire mid week, spectator’s money would not pay for the ground staff let alone the players and officials. Players deserve the chance to earn a living wage and that won’t come from County cricket spectators revenue. Not unlike football for many to be honest. Finance needs to come from somewhere and a few Test Matches every year just won’t do it, staggered at how empty day 4 was at Surrey recently for a full days cricket Vs Sri Lanka. The white ball game provides money. I tried months ago to get tickets for the Aus T20 at the rose bowl. Sold out, even the women’s T20 international was sold out. The 100s a near similar story. Bums on seats, money in the bank, money to support the County game and the development of players. County cricket has its place, a cricket academy if you like. But as a stand alone entity it would be dead by now.
