Decent effort. No shame in that performance but the expected defeat happened given our lineup.
As they say. We can focus on the league.
The boys did OK.

Whole hearted effort and several “ fringe” players advanced their cause quite a bit imho - Donley, Keely, Warrington and Cooper notably. Perkins and DJ less so. Sorry, but still not getting all the fuss about Oberio. Back to the League on Saturday and with the same level of effort we’ll maybe get a better result.

Nothing to be ashamed of there. Decent effort against a premier league side.

But I do rate Obiero.

Keeley looked good tonight, I hope he keeps his place.

We could have done so much better if Richie had put out a stronger side.
A few of the'fringe ' players played well, Warrington, Donley, Keeley.
Perkins is worse than terrible, why of why we signed him I don't know. Sweeney isn't good enough, DJ has some skill, but his decision making leaves a lot to be desired.
Simpson is an accident waiting to happen. He did a stupid foul against Reading in the last few minutes on Saturday, that could have cost us.
Won't be the last time he sees red
I love the sky blue kit, it's really nice

Perkins appears untalented and unmotivated and should be sent back to Leeds asap if this is the best he can do. Kelman did more in 5 minutes after coming on. How Simpson wasn't subbed when he was an obvious walking red card I have no idea. Other players had their moments but afraid class told. No disgrace, but perhaps a bit disappointing overall.

Don’t think a stronger line up would have made any difference to the end result. If you can’t test your inexperienced players and some who are in need of match fitness in a game like this, when do you. The league is more important than whether we could get a lucky result on the night. Thought Dom Ball looked good, happy to take the ball in tight spaces even when closely marked. When fully fit he will be a real asset to us and the way Richie wants to play.

Did much better than Barnsley, at least we didn’t ship seven.

Quite a bit of negativity on the first couple of pages. Not sure why. We are league one, they are premier league, there is a gulf of class between the two squads. Yet our reserves were as good as they were and at times were on top and outplaying them.
Mr B made a point about our passing, if it was against a team in our league I’d give him that, but when you watch the game live, their movement to intercept the pass, the reading of the game is on a level we are nowhere near and that’s not a dig at our players just a fact.
I thought Warrington was superb, he is a player, the way he takes the ball, the shape of his body, the ability to take it under any condition and wanting it too. I think he’s gonna be quality once he gets fit. On top of this Ball was good too, wanting the ball, even with a Brentford player on his back on our 18 yard line, again he will be some player when fit. Cooper seems like a new player, he has grown since last season, seems more composed, feels comfortable and settled, he played well tonight.
One of their goals was handball, we all called it and the ref didn’t give it. Sweens was a fault for one goal, he let his man get in front of him and a free header when in truth it would have been a simple defensive header out for a corner. Perkins is lacking work rate, nice touch, but ain’t chasing nothing down. DJ has lost weight since I saw him at welling, but he’s still lacking fitness or match fitness at least.
I was really pleased tonight with what I saw, the players deserve credit for that performance. What it has shown me is the squad does have depth, but it’s not quite there just yet. The future is looking somewhat better than it was after Shrewsbury that’s for sure.

The future is looking somewhat better than it was after Shrewsbury that’s for sure. For me, my early feelings were generated because of the team we put out. Had defeat written all over it and that’s exactly what happened. Early negative feelings justified. For sure those picked did a good job, many played well . And I understand the reasons why that team played. But the fans who went and paid good money deserved a stronger team to start. As it turned out the boys put on a good display and did two things, gave us some enjoyment in their performance and some regret on what could have been. Bottom line is we are out of the cup, miss the opportunity for a lucrative game and some money. In truth the only value in that game is if it helps us in the league going forward. As for the passing MrB mentioned. This is not new and nothing to do with the quality of the opposition, because we do the same in the league. And something RW has mentioned more than once in post match interviews. When we get into promising positions, whether that’s turning over the ball or in the final third, we don’t press that advantage, we too often go backwards. Now I know sometimes that’s the best thing to do but going backwards followed by a hopeful punt seems a pointless exercise to me. Our goal came from a superb Warrington forward pass, some aggressive play and a great cross. How many times out wide do we look backwards, too many. When we look to go forward, be more attack minded, we are actually very good.

I get the criticism of Perkins - he didn’t do a great deal but tbf he was ploughing a lone furrow upfront for over an hour and that is a difficult task. Jayasiemi I thought went downhill after a bright opening 15-20 mins. He is clearly struggling a bit fitness wise. Simpson looked shaky on several occasions and watching on tv there was no real clarity as to what the second yellow was for.

Surprising, should be ok by now. The potential to be a good, exciting player full of tricks. I’m sure it will be sorted. disappointed with Perkins. Have seen nothing to suggest he has the potential to be a top player. But early days and last night was good practice. RW will bring out the best in him. We really do need to stop the flow of silly yellow cards. We are definitely not a dirty team but one that constantly niggles away with silly pushes, trios, obstructing free kicks stuff. Haven’t seen the stats but I’m willing to bet we are table toppers on cards issued. Need to cut it out.

Simpson looked shaky on several occasions and watching on tv there was no real clarity as to what the second yellow was for. For Perkins to succeed he needs to work harder, he is too slow in the press which allows the oppo out easily everytime. Still that's why they sent him on loan to learn and improve. Concerning DJ he is clearly unfit and not at the fitness level you would expect him to be at, I did say hes lost weight so he must be trying, but hes blowing out his arse as 25 mins, thats not good enough in my opinion. As for Simpson he pulled their striker down, but as he got up to continue Simpson wrestled him back to the ground. Couldn't really argue with the second yellow to be honest. Still plenty of positives to take from the game.
