Looks like we've had a significant investment into the women's setion. I wonder if this is the first step to our main shirt sponsor taking over the club completely? For the women they want to jump 4 divisions quickly. Plus 5 games a season will now be played at Brisbane Rd increasing by one game each year. Sounds exciting as they want to attract a higher level of player to the club. This could well be a test ground for their new football section getting their feet under the table and getting used to the game in this country before taking over the whole club. Thoughts? www.leytonorient.com/news/2024/september/18/mccaffrey-football-investment-group-llc-make-significant-investment-into-leyton-orient-fc-women/

Does this mean the Ladies team is under separate ownership?

Does this mean the Ladies team is under separate ownership? We don't know. What I think is that this is the beginning of the takeover of our football club. We are looking for investors so as to achieve our short, medium and long term ambitions. A new stadium, championship football and on it goes. We need north of £100m which we as a club does not have right now. However, this new investor may well have and is looking for the opportunity to grow our club to be viable in the division above with an eye to be on the Premier league by point x in the future. This could be what will play out. I could be wrong. I could be right.

Nobody has bought or sold anything. This is all about a group of people who want to build something and have a bit of the necessary wonga to do it. Opening the stadium for a tiny crowd is expensive and, in the big picture, unsustainable. The McCaffreys and friends seen an opportunity to invest to improve everything and thus attract the best players and support people. Stephanie played pro football in the top league in the US and was an international. It's worth noting that women's football in America has been at the pinnacle for many years, the McCaffreys know what they are doing. Have faith and enjoy the ride.

I suppose time will tell on that score.

I suppose time will tell on that score. That's a good question and it deserves a straight answer... We are four people now and the two key drivers area a life-long fan-dom of the Os and a desire to contribute. The only weakness/opening we saw was the lack of publicity and coverage of Orient's women. There were a few bits and bobs but if you asked anyone (a) Which league do we play in? (b) Where are we in the league? (c) Where do we play our home games? (d) Which day do we play and what time is the kick off? (e) Where are our fixtures and results? (f) who plays for us? (g) Who is the manager? (h) How to contact anyone in the women's section..... All you'd get would've been a shoulder shrug from the majority. That's why lofcwomen.com was started, to get O's fans access to the women's games and to grow interest. We reckon we've succeeded in that. Sadly, the engagement from the club has been mostly negative so we've had to sail our own boat, I hope people think we've done OK. Now that American organisation seems to be arriving on the scene and with a focus on the women's group, it's quite likely they will raise the game significantly and do all the things in-house that we've been doing independently. If so, then we'll serve no further purpose and we'll shuffle off back from whence we came. Everything has a shelf life.

The comment that “we trust that decisions will be made in the best interests of Leyton Orient” suggests that some control is being given up, or at least delegated (hopefully the club retain final say). Interesting development. I see it’s people involved with these Eastdil Secured business who already sponsor us, so presumably the club know and trust them already. For the moment I’m going to assume this is a positive development.

If so, then we'll serve no further purpose and we'll shuffle off back from whence we came. Everything has a shelf life. Unlike many members on both forums, I do take an interest in women's sport, especially Cricket and football. In fact when I ran my own men's football team from around 1970 to 1979, the players girlfriends also got the club to run a women's team to play against local teams in indoor 5 a side games and myself and a couple of the other players were asked to help train and run the ladies 5 a side team, teaching them the basics of football. One day one of the members brought a friend with her to train with the other ladies. What a surprise, she was a girl of Oriental origin, very fit and all kitted up immaculately in full Chelsea kit and and she was the real deal, so good and she said she played for a Chelsea ladies team. If she had been around now easily good enough to be a top woman player. The team only played for that one summer, lack of opposition and with our special player we won every game easily so we ran out of teams to play. I often wondered what happened to that very talented young lady player. Shame there was not the opportunities for her to play regularly that much in the mid 1970s.

Just got it finished.... lofcwomen.com/xnews10.html I do not know much about the ladies team but did we not have a Leyton Orient ladies team in a much higher league but moved on from that and started up from scratch again in a much lower league with a freshly structured team ?

Strange as it seems like we've just given control and ownership away and are 3 levels lower today than we would have been. I think this is a prelude to them taking over the whole football club, lock stock and barrell.

I think this is a prelude to them taking over the whole football club, lock stock and barrell. So a strange decision indeed as from what Fisch seems to say, that Leyton Orient fc did not seem that interested in the current womens team. So would seem like a change of mind happened along the way. Fact of the matter is that apart from the top League of English womens football league, there is not that much interest in ladies football. As to this organization taking over the whole club, well a very small cash outlay to run the ladies team compared to the massive amount needed to run the whole club which is a big money loser. So if their interest is kept solely to the ladies team, what happens if the daughter gets tired of playing womens football in cold and wet England against poor quality opposition ?

Sorry folks, wrong end of the stick ....
Orient have a keen interest in the women's team, it's just that the people running the women's team have no interest in us (lofcwomen.com). Quite the opposite in fact, that hasn't made our lives easy, the less said about that the better. We are hoping the McCaffreys will shake it up for the better.
Just to comment of Thor's point about the "the other half of the equation", the reality was that LOFC were just cash cows and had no rights or influence over the whole thing. Travis and Teague couldn't stand that so had little choice but to start from scratch. 2 promotions in 3 seasons has taken us to tier 7. The modern women's game gets tougher (and more expensive) exponentially.
