Ok now I’ve seen the video the talking points are
Kelman Donley Hemmings
Kelman I think we all agree he should have scored. When he received the ball I felt that he would slot it in the far corner. I didn’t realise at the time how much of the near post was open and with this video hindsight that would have been an easier finish to have made.
Donley, how did he miss his chance? I thought it should have been a goal in live time and seeing this back it’s harder for him to hit the keeper than score! It’s a shocker of a miss.
Hemmings, what was he doing for the scrambled part? Look again and you will see him in the very back of his net, why did he retreat there? You can’t save a goal there as the ball would already be behind the line? Surely he should have been braver and dived on top of it? Anyone touches him and it’s a foul.
A game we should have won very easily ends up nil nil. We have to be more ruthless in front of goal and I’d like to see more shots instead of walking it in.

We've been a striker short since the season began. Maybe there's a 35 year old unattached with the nous to put away chances. We need further options off the bench When plan 'A' isn't working.

Hemmings isn't getting the mention he deserves for the fact that we've only conceded three in the last four games. Two aways and two homes, both the latter against quality opposition.

Hemming made a number of very good catches under pressure yesterday. One in particular, towards the end of the game, stood out. He showed strength to hold off a number of Wrexham players to claim the cross cleanly.

I use a desktop pc and have not got a zoom available to use.
I have just looked at the miss on 40 seconds and on my set up no close up or slow motion available to be able to take a close up.All I can see is the ball coming over from the right and then someone hits the ball from a close range shot and does not score. As to the Kelman chance on 20 seconds, well forwards often miss just keeper to beat chances like that. The keeper got his angles right to make it awkward to hit either side of him but sitting in our chairs and watching seems to me he would have been better off hitting it hard to the keepers left side and lifting the ball, as you mentioned its a bigger gap to aim at on that side. he went for the ball along the ground option to the keepers right and missed. He also had a defender closing in on him on his left hand side so perhaps made him rush his shot somewhat. Certainly NOT an open goal missed as some describe it, especially on the other forum. I would say it was a good chance to score, but for me, not an open goal.

I never agree with should have scored or that was bad luck if they hit the goal frame. It is so difficult to score a goal, that is why football is a low scoring game.My terminology is a great CHANCE to score but missed.Head in hands and a sort of despair.I often watch the TV match to see where the attacking move breaks down and see how difficult scoring is even with the open goal, just one or two inches better off the boot and the ball goes in a different direction. The ball often bobbles at the wrong time and a good goalkeeping position has to be taken into account.

Kelman - would probably have put that away more often than not but it's not a sitter. Feel for him, because he has been playing well, but the Os do seem to have a bit of a problem in front of goal. Maybe it's a confidence thing.
Donley/Cooper - That's more of a fluke than a great save. It's been struck well and on target from close range, and nine times in ten it goes in. Wrexham rode their luck there.
Hemming - He's probably an ok keeper who just had a couple of bad games early on. He seems perfectly sound and reliable now, although not a star. He needs a few quet games now. Looking at the fixture list, he might get them.
On an unrelated point, I've been telling myself that the 'bad start' so many pundits have mentioned really just boils down to one bad game - Shrewsbury. The rest have been middling to good and the low points return is due to a) the quality of the opposition and b) some isolated individual errors. Am I seeing things through rose-tinted specs? Evidently not. At the start of the season I had a spread bet on the Os getting more than 59 points. You might think the bet is currently showing a loss but in fact it shows a small profit. This suggests that other punters (a generally unsentimental lot) share my view that results to date are actually not that bad and they expect the points tally to rise sharply as the easier fixtures come along. I reviewed the league table just now and noted that of the eight teams we have played only the Shrews stand lower than fifteenth, and we have of course played both the top two, and several other fancied sides like Bolton and Posh. So it really has been a tough start, and even so but for a few stupid errors, we might well be a good six points better off.
We do need a win against Exeter though! Fingers crossed.

Very good comment indeed. I have not been able to see the Donley/Cooper shot clearly so take your word for it. Yes agree about the Kelman missed chance, was not a sitter but he had to act quickly as he had a defender closing in on him on his left side and the Wrexham keeper got his position right to close down the angles. Ok when you have time to watch it might have been a better choice to hit it hard and higher to the right hand side of the goal, but he chose the wrong option, it happens. If he was a natural born goal scorer then he wouldn't be a loan player as he is now, but he is a grafter and will just have to keep non stop practicing at his goal scoring skills. Agree with all you say, Hemmings seems to have got over his bad start at the club and long may that remain !! As everyone knows, our biggest problem is that of scoring goals and that must be a big headache for Richie to somehow improve upon.

Thanks Denis. I've had a closer look at A Closer Look and the Donley/Cooper miss is extraordinary when you see it in slow-motion. They both go for for it and both have an open goal but they seem to strike the ball simultaneously and as a consequence the ball isn't struck cleanly which gives the keeper the chance to make an instinctive save. All the same it's lucky because they were literally inside the six yards box so anything other than a miscue is sure to go in. I don't think you can blame either player - just one of those things. Incidentally, the film picks up a clear handball/penalty. The Wrexham defender fluffs his clearance and knocks the ball up on to his hand. In my day you'd have brushed that aside as accidental but nowadays it's a penalty if the ref sees it. It happened so quick you can't blame him, but VAR would definitely have nailed it. The defender kind of gives the game away with his sheepish reaction, but he got lucky. And in fairness I should say the Os got lucky with the pinball in the six yards box in the last minute. Any other day that goes in. Ah well, that's football, folks. Enjoy tonite.
Edit: oh, and the Kelman miss is clearer on A Closer Look. If he takes it on his left foot it is a lot easier but it comes to him on his right and that's more awkward. That's why he drags it wide. So as before, I'd say it was one he would normally take, but not quite a sitter.
