I'm sure today Richie will be looking at a catalogue of errors for their goal. So many things can be improved in that movement.

1.48 the Exeter keeper pulls off a worldie save. His name is Joe Whitworth and he is a 20 year old on loan from Crystal Palace. He is 1.79 metres tall, that around 5 foot nine inches. Lucky Exeter getting a young keeper like that on loan.

I remember years ago Sheffield United had a brilliant keeper who was 5'9'' tall. Alan Hodgkinson and he made 675 first-team appearances (576 in the league) for the Blades between 1953 and 1971. He also gained 5 England caps. He is credited as being the world's first full-time goalkeeping coach; goalkeepers were required to train with outfield players before Hodgkinson's arrival into coaching

I remember that goalie he was very good Sheffield Wednesday had a good goalie in Springett Ron Springett was a great keeper who played for England 33 times. Again not a tall keeper at 5'10'' tall. Gordon Banks was the keeper who replaced him for England.

Definitely errors for the goal. Poor defending to allow the cross, poor defending when it came over. Poor defending at 5he far post. We had an earlier warning but Hemming tipped over. We too put in similar crosses that amounted to nothing. The margins between winning and losing are small.

If very good goalies existed then why are clubs now days demanding goalies be tall At school I played left side (left footer) or occasionally in goal, the last refuge for kids not making the outfield team, few wanted the keeper shirt. Turned out I was a decent keeper and went on to have trials further up the chain. However I was short. But inspired by Les Green who like me was short but made it in the pro game. But as you move up from the kids to the mens’ game size matters. If you are below 6ft then being a keeper it is a drawback. Not impossible, just more difficult. One thing being a good shot stopper, but another being able to command the box. For sure some tall, strong kids at school, Paul Went in the same team as me. But the men’s game is a different kettle of fish. So I can fully understand the demand for tall keepers able to physically command in the box. Mind you, I was mustard in 5-a-side. 😂

Nowadays with the ball more played on the ground and not having to come against tall target men so much, perhaps not so much necessary for very tall keepers. We have a very good young keeper in Noah Phillips who I think is around 5' 9 or 5' 10'' and from what I have seem in highlights, he looks brave, agile and good with crosses into the box, perhaps he will get his chance one day to see how he shapes up ?

To be fair we don’t trouble most keepers. Irrespective of their size.

Best cross of the night doh was Brown’s from the free kick that Cooper contrived to plant right at the goalkeeper!
