I like everyone else acknowledge RW ability He proved it with Swindon and Leyton. No one can get two teams promoted like he has done in that short space of time. It’s obvious he must know what he is doing However I ageee with Donut above about Moncur Thor said the same as me a month ago - we should have built a team around Moncur. He was worth having around because he has a 100% record on penalties alone which is an achievement. Where I differ from RW is I would not have all this intensity focus which basically needs two people for each position and burns players out I would of played two proper wingers as traditional wingers -as orient pitch is wider than most and have two strikers with one that can head and one fast one Agyei has tremendous strength and ability and for the life of me cannot fathom why he can’t just play to the style he was at crewe whatever that was and RW now play tactics that suit the better players - Agei : Gailbrath : James : Clair - and when the two wingers are fit - please play tactics to suit the strength of our players they are as skilful as opposition players but maybe not suited to be burnt out or what RW says “leggy” In other words play something on the lines of 4-4-2 !! Yes please. bring it on asap !

Jaiyesimi, now you don't. Charlton fans did warn he's unfit and doesn't train well. But RW said he was great when he saw him play! Clare is very useful I believe he can even play as a striker Try him there v col utd? Thinking completly out of the box here, well seems we are not going to go onto the market to get in a centre forward so why not try converting another of our players into playing the centre forward role, someone strong who can head the ball and hold the ball up. Been done many times in the past think of Malcolm McDonald converted from left back to centre forward and also Blackburns left back Fred Pickering converted from left back to a strong swashbuckling centre forward.

Off hand I struggle to think of anyone I would prefer over RW. He is without doubt one of the finest managers we have had and I will be delighted if he stays with us for a long time.
But above league 2 he is largely unproven. His previous forays into league 1 both ended in failure. One relegation with Oldham and second from bottom with Doncaster. Both very short stints. His time with us is a big deal for him to prove he can do it at our level. I believe he can and last season was a great start for sure. This season not so. He is responsible for the players we bring in, alongside Ling. Cannot bring in players then complain about their mistakes. Bringing them in perhaps was the mistake. Some of our newer players have yet to deliver.
Point being good times, mistakes, poor play, great play is a collective responsibility that leads to results, results are poor. They need to improve, I’m sure they will. Relegation would be a disaster for the club in general and RW personally. Strike 3 is not an option. It won’t happen.

Tbf the consensus on the Charlton forums was that Clare was also a dud - which hasn’t proved correct. They might have been onto something with DJ though!😆 DJ has shown glimpses of his undoubted ability. But we shift an apparently unfit Moncur, who has played loads of minutes at Southend at partly our cost, for an apparently unfit DJ who just doesn’t play at all! Good sense? Answers on a postcard. You certainly have a point doh! One of the “ mysteries of the Orient “ I guess?😀👍

I think this signing, alongside the Perkins loan and to an extent Kelman’s loan has left us with a huge amount to do to avoid the drop. I can see 4-5 other teams as bad as winning games as us (thankfully), and it will come down in the main to the mini league we have amongst these teams.

Certainly worked - on a short term basis- when Petchey put the super versatile Peter Bennett up front for 3 or 4 games back in the 75/ 76 season , although he was someone who played midfield quite a bit as well of course. The only other centre half to centre forward switch I can remember was John Sneddon way back when Dick Graham was in charge and that wasn’t particularly successful if I recall. We’ve probably had greater success when full backs have been put up front actually - Mark Warren and Mick Jones both did well after being switched on a couple of occasions. Pretty sure that Chris Tate did the opposite journey - centre forward to centre back- for a short spell when TT was in charge.

I think it’s fair to say that it is starting to appear as though some of the business done in summer transfer window is not working out that well.

Sadly I’ve started to look at other teams more likely than us to finish bottom 4. Bar the odd good patches I’ve not seen too much to give me confidence to believe anything other than this will be a tough season. Far too many weak links alongside a system that takes a heavy toll on the better players. Worrying combination. Mid table is definitely achievable providing a few step up. Possible!

Well as I said, I think outside the box when it comes to football tactics and players positions. We are in surplus when it comes to centre halves, so could try out putting one of our 4 centre halves up front even if only for the last 30 minutes or so if we were struggling to score. I would perhaps give Cooper a try out up there case of nothing ventured, nothing gained ! Little to no chance of RW changing his tactics or players positions. Whatever, it is not working at present so unless we start quickly getting some points on board, something has to change.

You’re right doh, mid table is certainly achievable if we can keep players fit and the “ off nights” are minimised. Equally we could face an extremely difficult battle to keep out of the bottom four. It’s long been my belief that results from the opening 10-12 games are a very good guide to where you’ll finish at the end of the season. Doesn’t always work of course but more often than not it does. The upcoming game at Lincoln and the two games following therefore may well give us the answer.👍

Dave Watson of England, Sunderland and Manchester City did the opposite switch, changed from an average lower league centre forward to brilliant centre half with Sunderland and Manchester City.

Consensus on the Charlton forums was one of surprise we picked him up and they thought we had more ambition. They didn’t rate him at all bar one match. He ain’t looked fit stamina wise You sure the serious knee injury he picked in the past hasn't slowed him down? I have no idea why he was like before or after his injury. But Charlton fans said he was signed after an amazing performance against them, yet he never repeated the same in their shirt Hope he turns out good

Regular thing in the past to stick the centre half up front if needed. Master tactician Don Revie sometimes even put bid Jack up front if and when needed !

Same as his insistence on playing inverted wingers, never even gets the wingers to vary it by swapping wings.
