Click on the image to make it bigger... Graham has just hit a cross from the right and a Col Utd defender has headed out for a throw to us on this near side. We are attacking, the throw is roughly in line with their penalty box. Cooper throws the ball 30 metres back towards Warrington who has a Col U player near him, he has to rush to get the ball and can only pass it back to Hemming due to the pressure. I can't understand Cooper's decision.

I noticed that too. Didn’t comment at the time, just another of many examples of our negative play. Tedious stuff. Boosts the possession stats, that’s it. It won’t change.

That's the beauty of attending a match you can see nobody is moving up the pitch so there is no option but to pass back. Not so obvious on TV.

its our way. no one seems to wants or shows for the ball so i think he did what he thought was the only option. i was there tuesday working so was quite near the corner flah and noticed there was no urgency in wanting the ball

I'm guessing there are statistics to show how often possession is lost from an attacking throw-in compared to a defensive throw which requires us to make ground again from the back - the same ground we already had at the point of the throw in.
As Redshank says, it can't be beyond the wit of the thrower and receiver to share a signal so that receiver knows exactly when to sprint away from his marker and be at the right place to receive the throw. It would then require a 3rd player to do something similar to give the 2nd an option to make a pass.
