Hello..
I'm still around and popping on periodically to hopefully keep a lid on things. I know I'm not as visible at the moment.
I'll try to keep this brief.. but will probably end up ranting and a good release for me.
After having my wife's cancerous problems in late 2022 and throughout 2023 to work with, in early 2024 my Mum has been hit with sudden onset dementia.
This means that after trying to set her abode on fire and wandering around the town centre getting lost, withdrawing cash and handing it out in the street to strangers, she was ultimately evicted by her landlords as a danger to other residents and then spent a period of 5 months in hospital and various care homes and residencies.
It sounds mad but for my Mum's bits the dementia is the easy part. What has been difficult is having to liaise with: 2 different councils, 3 different hospitals, 2 GPs, 5 social workers, 3 landlords, 2 placement teams and several Financial Assessment teams. It's b******* that they don't all talk to each other.
Throw on top of that dealing with the kids (trying to sort their secondary schools and all that stuff that comes with being in the last year of primary school) and all the usual stuff, clubs, whinges and whines, etc.
And obviously my wife isn't clear of her cancer (I don't think you're ever clear are you?), so that whilst at bay at the moment is an ongoing thing.
And then also working a fairly stressful job on a permanent basis (Head of Finance) during a period of restructure.
So all of the above over the last sort of 3 years (5 years if you include the COVID times of home schooling and working from home) has taken it's toll on me, who unsurprisingly at the end of August started feeling a bit odd.
Crazily you'd think the above would have placed a mental strain on me but I can compartmentalise that side of things quite easily. It was physical that manifested in me. I started swelling up (Oedema) and the more I exercised the more the Oedema flared and the more weight I was putting on.
Turns out my blood pressure was through the roof, at one point it was 208/153. I was a walking heart attack.
Post 1/2.
