Trouble brewing at 120 year old Typhoo tea. Being forced out by the peoples preference for other beverages I collected their football cards years ago, maybe they need to do more of this again to attract young people to drink tea.

Supermarket own brands have squeezed their market share as well. Haven’t bought branded tea bags for years, premium prices but no longer a premium product.

Very sad news to hear this. Yet another old British company going to have to close down and so many people who will lose their jobs as a result. Nothing to joke about and Typhoo is a good tea brand and one of the brands I use myself. Also Homebase is in trouble again and its an awful time of the year for people to learn that they will be out of a job soon.

Wonder if they'll do the decent thing and clear up that old chestnut about Scunthorpe before they go

It's market share may have been.erorded, but its deeper than that. Their facilities were wrecked by squatters and they lost something like £15m in destroyed product and facilities. Which then made it impossible for them to forfil orders which has a knock on effect of confidence in the business from customers and on it goes.

Wonder why these squatters were allowed to stop in the factory so long and cause so much damage, they should have been escorted off from day one of their illegal entry.
In August 2023, Typhoo suffered a further blow when trespassers broke into the company’s former factory in Moreton and occupied the site for several days.

I couldn't see the Germans letting one of their beverage beer manufacturers falter, or the Spanish with their Ham or the French,Italians with their wine. Funny how all these European countries still maintain and control their car industries to a greater extent, where the UK just wants to sell off all our National Assets.

Latest budget certainly won’t help. Not just Typhoo but many others. I hope Twinings are doing OK, they have offices about 1 mile from me and a decent sized employer in the area.
As an aside I’m in to tea drinking, the loose leaf type. I thought tea drinking was on the increase, maybe not.

Agree osoldguy, Before you know it there will be Chimpanzee selling tea. The PC and Animal rights brigade wouldn't alĺow it would they today? I would hope those Chimps were treated well at the time of the advert. Simpler innocent times back in the day. Those days are gone.

Some great teas have gone, when I was wed we used Lyons Quick Brew tea, they also had great adverts.Coffee was for teachers doing playground duty. I had a conversation with Mrs redshank yesterday about the teachers we had at school. The youngest must have been born in the early 1930s and those near retirement in the late 1880s to the 1890s.

Teaching methods were really changing back then. I remember aged 12 we'd just finished a lesson with our young teacher and walked into the main hall. Suddenly one boy opened the piano lid and played a bit of Get Back by the Beatles. Our young teacher was delighted, but across the way the elderly headmaster came out of his office shouting furiously!

I have an English book for secondary education from 1948.When a niece went on a course to become a teacher I showed her the book, she took it along to show her tutor who could not believe how high secondary education was set.Nowadays it would probably get one into Oxford or Cambridge, but that is not much of a standard nowadays is it.

Best tasting teabags around but agree that in most shops they are pricey. If you have a B&M store near you then try them , they are normally way cheaper there. When we come over from Spain I try to take the next years supply back with me .

Lidl have a "black" tea called 'ROYAL'. Pretty much the same as monkey tea but at half the price.
