By my reckoning our squad for nest season will be.
Ling Widdowson Ekpiteta Coulson Clay Wilkinson Maguire-Drew Dayton Sargeant Judd Happe Brophy Dennis Angol Sortiriou Vigouroux Turley Johnson Wright 19 players. Sorry for anybody I’ve missed.
of those 19, Judd, Dennis and Coulson (sadly) are not real contenders for starts anytime soon giving us, excluding keepers, 14 players seriously contesting the 10 outfield playing positions. With Sortiriou and Ekpiteta yet to sign, we have only 12 guaranteed contenders for 10 spots before we start to rely heavily on the kids/fringe players and loans.
Teague talking about being on the edge of the playoffs is just not realistic. What is more likely is another season like this one.
Dayton, Ling and Turley have poor injury records, though may mot be an issue next season.
Mcanuff and Harold are unlikly to figure in my opinion.
Marsh, Cisse and Starling are loans so their future in uncertain.
Janata Kyprianou Shabani Sweeney
Youngsters who may get the odd minutes here and there.
overall, given the poor performances of some of our players this season I make our squad not one that will be competing much next season, add Ross to the mix and whilst I don’t think we will go down I find our squad less than inspiring.
We (Ling) needs to be working hard now on building our squad. Proactive rather than waiting to review the leftovers. Sorting our Ekpiteta, Sortiriou and Cisse is a massively important place to start.

Added to all of that, I have heard a rumour, that Angol doesn't want to be here. It was from a pretty good source, but like all rumours, it could well be a load of nonsense. The person who to told me, actually sells programmes at West Ham, but is a big Dagenham & Redbridge fan and keeps in contact with Joe and Connor, so who knows. He actually told me Connor was signing for us, before it was made official, but to be honest, I didn't take much notice of it!

I have also heard that Sam Sargeant isn't a happy bunny at being dropped so we could see something developing on that come the end of the season.

I'm not sure we would miss Angol, 4 league goals with 11 league games to go isn't brilliant, in fact none of our strikers have been good. Our first 2 leading goal scorers are midfield players with 8 and 6. 45 goals in 35 league games

We are 18th in this division so no player should feel safe or superior. I'm not concerned about any particular player going and if we can get some money for them, then all the better

I must admit I thought Dayton was out of contract next season and if that is the case I would find it difficult to understand him being kept on. Coulson is still under contract I think and unlike Dohnut I believe Embleton still sees him as a useful squad member ( although I agree maybe not as a starter). The Lee Angol story is an interesting one. I hadn’t heard that rumour myself but if true, it certainly does fit into the recent pattern of his career - since leaving Luton in 2015 he has only stayed longer than one season at any of the four club’s he has had!

Dayton as I understand it has a one year extension clause in his contract. Whether it’s up to him, the club or both to invoke it I’m not too sure. But I suspect it will be invoked. Would be surprised to see him go.
Shame about Angol. Really liked what I saw when he first came, quick feet and good control. Always felt we never really used him well. I think that reflects on his scoring record..
Coulson for me is no longer an automatic first choice. He has struggled this season, never seems match fit. But great to have in the squad as cover.
Yet to be convinced about Johnson. Wilkinson blows hot and cold, Wright has not lived up to expectations, Clay has come good since Cisse arrived but before that very average. Ling offers very little in attack or defence, Widdowson decent in defence but little in attack.
All in all, when I started to look at our squad for next season I found it depressing, We seem to have the ability to take decent players, and most are to be fair, and make them look poor.. when in fact if used to their full ability are easily a mid to upper group squad. A couple of decent loans and new signings and we are off. But that’s unlikely.

Somebody has to make way if we are to get new people in, although we are hamstrung by 2-year contracts dished out last summer.
Harrold, Gorman and Alabi: All out
Coulson and Widdowson can go (but I think they both have another year on contract).
The idea of Jobi being contracted till he's 40 is bizarre.
I like Judd, but he appears not to have a future with us.
Does Dayton really have a contract extension? I like him but he may be considered expendable.
Sorry, people, I'd send JMD packing. He drives me mad.
Sergeant will have to reconcile himself to being second fiddle and I think he will.
I rate Angol (the only one of the above who is League 1 capable in my view), but if he doesn't want to be here he will easily find a new club.

Personally I wouldn’t exercise it if I were in Ling’s shoes.

Divisions one and two are always an enigma.Avoid relegation one year, promotion or play offs the next.Orient are a prime example, sometimes punch above our weight.

I just dont get the negativity sometimes. At risk of stating the bleeding obvious we have a great set of owners and we have had that since before Hearn (who was a massive parasite). We have a professional back room team. We have a team that has now a decent spine. I am so pleased that some of the naysayers on here arent anywhere near making any relevant decisions on behalf of LOFC. We are heading in the right direction even if the path has a few bumps here and there. Keep the faith, show some faith and some pride. We have phoenixed and are on the way up. Anyone who expected an upward only trajectory isnt living in the real world.

Anyone who expected an upward only trajectory isnt living in the real world. The thing is Teague has made some telling remarks. A couple of times he has said we are behind his points per game target. So we are not performing to his expectations. Secondly his comment about if you can’t say anything good don’t say anything at all, following a period where, by his standards, he was very quiet, speaks volumes. So our trajectory is not meeting our owners standards so why should some fans not feel the same way. without doubt the club management are being cut a huge amount of slack for obvious reasons. But that won’t last forever. I doubt Teague will meekly stand by and watch us perform below his expectations next season. So the only question for us is whether we believe next season will meet his targets. We are not this season and I don’t see to much to believe next will be significantly better. As covered in my OP. maybe I’ll feel happier once Ruel, Cisse and Marv sign deals. That, together with Ross having a full pre-season and a couple on new, better players. Let’s hope.

Difficult to criticize after the owners we have had in recent years. As pleased as punch with the present board. One only has to look at the sponsorship they have garnered for our many times impoverished club.Things are looking up at last in that direction. Now we can build bit by bit to a better future than the recent past. I would like something done about the leaking roof in the east stand though.Nevertheless a good positive post from watfordo.
