good stuff
wasnt the roof bit for rent to advertisers as it was on the flight path? may be more than a lick of paint
maybe it is me but if the roof is being replaced can the gable be moved in line with the half way line? would look much better imo

Keep it quaint, adds to the history of the East Stand. The last I heard about that was that it was for the tote prices and dividends when it was part of the greyhound track where it came from. Not saying that is true but I heard it recently.

Have not heard from you for a time Blip. You was the one who welcomed me when I joined this forum. I have heard many things about the East Stand I remember when it was only part of the length it is now and had glass windows at one or both of the ends.

The gable was never in the middle at Brisbane Road. It is offset because it was there when at dog track to capture finish line. The current East Stand did have an extension to South Stand, that didn't change where Gable is This aerial picture shows clearly where the South Stand extension was and from roof materials can be seen its not moved the gable i.pinimg.com/originals/b7/be/35/b7be351892319e3e056d0570008c2d7e.jpgFootage prior to 1966/7 shows Gable in Original Position - it appears to be at time South extension was built on East Stand as the seats are closed off. Why prior to 1966/7? Well Orient were in Blue More footage of Orient in blue with gable in place This beauty shows day Orient won promotion to the top division v Bury and again shows offset gable in place There is some fantastic archive footage out there. Well worth a bit of trawling through the internet

Great photo.I think I remember terracing being either side of the EAST STAND.The memory does dim of course. Notice the lack of trees in Coronation gardens. Looking again at that photo, maybe it was a change in direction of the terracing at CG end.

Does any body know: Is the roof asbestos material? or fibre board? or something else?

Generally I was in the East Stand, but I have been in the North and South stands for matches...Never the West.

Does any body know: Is the roof asbestos material? or fibre board? or something else? Yes, there is asbestos up there. Wonder if this is why the council is involved, has to be removed by X date to comply with laws.

Re moving the gable, announcement already mentions that the gable is excluded and even if it weren't, would cost more with the extra steelwork that would need to be done.
Anyway, gives the stand extra character by being off centre.

If its in an unsafe condition and friable get your claims in for Asbestosis if you have been seating near the roof.

Sat there for most of the 80s (alongside a bloke who kept saying 'I don't know why we don't get that Brian Clough down here'). Great atmosphere when the crowd got the footstomping going on the wooden boards. I might go back if they improve the facilities.

Full marks to the Management for forking out for this added expense, which frankly is a pain in the arris, not least at this point in time.
