Paul Smyth joins us.
Then gets injured at Salford.
Then conveniently goes and gets married during the season.
Magically appears this weekend looking as sharp as ever.
Now selected for Northern Ireland despite only having played 45 minutes of football.
On the Outlook podcast a comment was made (or not made) about his recent availability by one of the presenters.
So the question is.. was he actually injured or on 'leave' ??
To be perfectly honest I don't really care either way as we've made a decent start and not particularly missed him. It should also put him in good shape for later on in the season when others may need a breather. Just be nice to know the truth.

It is a bit random to be married on a Saturday during the season

Maybe a touch of the "unsettled week" syndrome?

It is a bit random to be married on a Saturday during the season Wonder if it was fixed up and allowed when he played U23 so missing a game would be no big deal. Would have been covered when he moved to us. Bit like us having a holiday booked when we change jobs. Having see how KJ works, he don’t seem the type of manager who gets phased by injuries, suspensions and so on. Takes it all in his stride as part of football. Likely to accept the wedding as a minor inconvenience that just needs to be worked round. kJ is very pragmatic it seems. Nothing to prevent signing him. Good move. Really excited to see him play a lot more.

It does seem a bit like the Gorman signing injured and then came back for a few games before appearing for N. Ireland .The Smyth signing could have been part of the deal .

I agree. Don't think it was sprung on us at all. More agreed in advance. Which makes me think was the hamstring stuff all a load of cobblers all along? I'd have had him starting tonight against Crawley. At least on the bench. But he's gone missing again.

For what its worth Mungo I am at the ground fairly early on matchdays and nearly every home game Paul Smyth has been in the treatment room or on the pitch working very hard with the physios on his hamstring. Some of the stretches he has had to do would make your eyes water! I very much doubt he would be doing that for no reason.

Still would have like to see him in the starting lineup today..

I agree its frustrating but you shouldn't stop a bloke from representing his country by telling him he has play at Crawley!

I very much doubt he will actually play for n. Ireland so it makes his absence even more annoying.

Clearly, Smythe needs more pitch fork stretching practice with Timmo as his instructor, never seen Timmo miss a game through a Hamstring strain.

Are you Clouseau in disguise? 😄

I think you have exposed something that should have a lid on it?
Namely.... highly-rated player has long-term injury. Signed by lower-league as a gamble..... said player is in the national squad (not because he is fit,,,, but, to check if he is the right person for international duty).
Is he the right type of player for international duty?
Is he a lame duck?
Is he Kevin Thornton is disguise?
Personal opinion..... his agent is taking the pee.
He will never be fit to play for you guys.
He will sign for a Scottish Prem side, or a Turkish Prem side in the next transfer window (contract cancelled by mutual consent).
This time next season, he will be on the bench (chasing the money) for East Thurrock. (Do they still exist?)
