If my memory serves me correctly that is exactly what he was told and what he said he would do. The issue was he then said these 7 have to go and rumour has it that Sam Ling was one of them as was Ross Embleton. The club backed the existing players and coach which caused the division between fletch and the team and Fletcher was let go. Thor .....So according to you, there was a rumour that Fletcher was told in his job interview that he had to work with the players and coaching staff that he had inherited, then in a very short space of time at the club he wanted 7 to go. Well if what you say is true, then it would seem that Fletcher's ideas in terms of player recruitment differed from what the club wanted to do.

I would be very very surprised if Ross Embleton ever becomes the manger of a professional football club again. Plagiarised comment.

The full story behind the Fletcher incident is unlikely to ever come out. Nigel Travis glossed over his departure with some phrases about the Board “ screwing up” and not blaming Fletcher but he “did not fit into the unique culture of the club” etc, etc. It was certainly made clear that Fletcher would be expected to inherit the coaching set up that was in place at the time but I don’t recall seeing anywhere that the playing staff had to remain unchanged. Whatever the truth, it was certainly a low point in the stewardship of the current owners. As to the chances of Ross Embleton being a candidate for the Southend vacancy , that strikes me as being extremely remote. Anyone who takes over there will have to have the fans on his side from day one and be extremely thick skinned. I doubt RE possesses either of those attributes.

Seemed they have a dream team trio with Bentley coming back.
Have to say, not too sure Maher has managerial experience needed, but like we said with Ross, you got to start somewhere. Be interesting to see how it works out, can’t be any worse.
