I saw something today that I’ve never seen at a game before. The ref blew up early for the first half then played 4 minutes after the break to finish first half just before he started the second. Bizarre? The O’s played 2 up front finally, something I’ve been advocating for weeks now. They adopted as I saw it a 3412 formation and played Kemp just behind the front 2. They played a high press quick tempo game and I have to say Hartlepool played right into there hands. From what I saw pools were not the biggest of teams and were out muscled by the high press. Most of the goals came from mistakes that the O’s forced them into, however the O’s first goal was created by a knock down by Smith to Drinnan and he buried it,again something that I’ve advocated, the front 2 playing closer together👍 A couple of players stood out for me today. Drinnan not just for the goals but for his high press contribution but today’s finishing was good. But for me the best player was Kemp. This lad can play, played in the right position. He has more creativity than any other player and he put himself about too,the only thing he got really wrong was when through on goal he didn’t square it instead deciding to shoot, possibly the one thing he got wrong on the day. This observation is only based on today’s game only, but this is what I concluded
Vigouroux... hard to assess due to lack of participation in game unfortunately but looked fairly solid. Mitchell... solid defender good in the air but lacks composure on the ball and tends to panic when clearing instead of looking for a player, needs to take a little more time on the ball. Beckles... solid player, holds the defence together and a contender for the captaincy IMO not many faults however was up against a very small player that really didn’t put him under pressure. Ogie.... very left footed and was a little shaky in the first 20 minutes, needs to settle quicker in games. James....took his goal well but his crossing today wasn’t the best. Pratley... looked leggy and his passing wasn’t the best and was a little slow. Would expect more with his experience and should be more assertive as captain. Lucky not to get a second yellow

Opps hit the wrong button 😱 Clay.... runs around but has no end product, poor passer of a ball and again lucky not to get a second yellow. Archibald..... not sure if he should be played so deep could be more suited to 442? Bottles it in a Challenge however when on the ball is very creative and can create problems for the opposition . Kemp....possibly the most creative in midfield and can certainly spot a pass however may need to play in a middle 3 as he needs support around him to be affective. Not to impressed with his corners taking if it was me (and it’s not) I would give Archibald a go at them instead. Drinnan.....impressed me today with his work rate and finishing can he do it week in week out? Think the coach needs to keep working on his finishing and conference. Smith.......yep good in the air and as stated benefits by having a player along side or just behind him. Kyprianou..... a little slow for me for a young lad. Coach needs to work on his sprinting but otherwise just average on today’s showing 🙈

Agree that Kemp can play. It's a squad game and to write anybody off (not you monkey, anybody) this early on is madness.
Thought that his tenacity over the last few games has been good and exactly what you want from someone coming into the team.
Yeah he took that shot on when he could have squared it, but I he did have 5 Hartlepool players around him and I think he'd earned himself a chance to have a crack.

Interesting take on Clay.
I thought today he was outstanding and when Pratley went off he got better.
Both Pratley and Clay can consider themselves lucky to stay on and especially in the 2nd half I thought Clay played in a really excellent, controlled and measured way.
It was much nicer to see the long ball to Smith approach dropped and although still direct at least it was to feet and both Smith and Drinan show they can play on the deck too.

Oops hit the wrong button 😱. There's an edit button on the right, monkeyman. You can hit that and carry on where you left off. I use it a lot, cos my fingers are usually quicker than my brain.

Delighted that we reduced the long ball to Smith for a flick on approach. As a variation during the game, fine, but not the primary mode of attack. It just don’t work.
We play better on the floor, we do better with crosses into the box from wider areas rather than down the middle. And we do well when we chase down the opposition in their half. Where our goals came from yesterday. Our first was better than I first thought, having looked at the highlights. Drinans second was class.
Kemp was brilliant yesterday and Clay, definitely one of his better games. And I don’t think Hartlepool are a bad side, we just blew them away. When we play like that, we can beat anybody.

We look a lot more potent with Drinan and Smith together, and Kemp had a great game in that slot - he's probably still running now. Wood seems to be having another break on Boco Island but it was the best way of accommodating Archibald in that system and he played his part once we got control of the game. Pratley seems to be struggling and once Reilly is fully fit I can see him and Clay fitting in to central mid to give the skipper a rest.

Pratley seems to be showing his age after a good start to the season. I think Orient need to look for another midfield enforcer at next transfer window, because other than that, the Os are looking pretty good elsewhere.

Last three games with Kemp in the side, we’ve been playing 3-4-1-2, with Smith partnering Smyth, Ruel and now Drinan. Well done to KJ for working things out and hopefully as Doh says, we are on the way up.

He played two up front yesterday bill slightly different to the formation above but Smith needs that partner along or just behind him,Drinnan or Ruel can play in that position but I’m not sure if Jacket will stick to that formation all the time my gut feeling he won’t?however I feel playing Kemp in that midfield role makes all the difference also🙈

Yeah, I thought clay had a good game too. He was instrumental in our first two goals. A positive forward pass into smith’s feet to allow him to lay it off for drinan’s opener and then it was his pressing and tackle that led to the loose ball drinan was able to square for smith for the 2nd.

I think Clay is better being a second banana.

Clay had an ok game on Saturday and most of you guys see more of him than I do,but what I have concluded is that he runs around a lot but isn’t the best passer and this was confirmed when on a couple of occasions he put his hands to his head as if he knew that he had already made a bad pass. He then try’s hard to make up the mistake by chasing the player down and instantly committing a foul to retrieve the ball, hence the yellow card. I would like the club to bring in a box to box midfielder in the window, however this is easier said than done. Just my view on Clay🙈
