Is there still a tribunal system thingy where as a fee is set when there is a dispute on the value of a player in these circumstances, I mean what protection has a young player got if even though his contract is up he can't leave until the parent club, in this case SUFC say you're not going anywhere till we're paid X amount.

Bringing this back up after a year.. I've been looking up young Elvis to see what he did this year. He didn't renew with Southend, nor was he allowed to join a new club. There's absolutely nothing on him out there at all. This is an article from November about him.. www.echo-news.co.uk/sport/19720806.southend-united-have-done-can-engage-elvis-bwomono/Seems a shame that his career has just gone because of something seemingly so trivial. Anyone know what happened?

I think he was contracted to SUFC until 2022 so l guess he'll be a free agent soon. That doesn't explain why he hasn't appeared all this season.

But he'll still be under 24 so Southend could still insist on a fee.

Hmm, they'll need to offer him a reasonable contract to bring that rule into play.
Imagine if they made him an offer, he accepted - and still doesn't play.
This is Ron Martin so all bets remain on the table.

But he'll still be under 24 so Southend could still insist on a fee. This was the issue last season. No longer under contract but Southend were able to insist on compensation. Phil Brown made it clear he wouldn’t go cheap and were holding out for a decent offer, that Just didn’t happen. So Southend got nothing and he couldn’t play. What a crock. in theory we could play the same game with Sotiriou. But I doubt we would. My shrimper nephew though he was one of their better players. Brown holding out suggests this to be true, probably annoyed he wanted away. But a year out! I’m assuming he is keeping fit. But it is a risk. Interesting, I was keen last time round.

This is Ron Martin so all bets remain on the table. As long as the contract is of greater value than the previous then the rule stands. And I assume his previous contract was either a youth one or a first professional contract so probably not hard to beat it.

Seems to me he's a bit of a troublemaker, he'll do the same to us wouldn't touch with a barge pole

Seems to me he's a bit of a troublemaker, he'll do the same to us wouldn't touch with a barge pole Is there evidence of that? Not too sure there is. He didn’t want to sign a new contract at a club just relegated to the NL. Another season in a list of poor seasons. Who can blame him. He had played well for the club and provided them with an opportunity go get some money too. The issue was the club/Brown who got difficult about the compensation they wanted and were quite prepared for him not to play for a year rather than compromise on how much money they got. So he lost a year of what is a short career out of spite. I wish him well in his career.
