My Italian mate said I hope it doesn't Costellots of money to get him from Southend. I'll be watching the defectives website to find out. I heard on the Radio Radio that Thomas Tuchel made him an offer but he said " I don't want to go to Chelsea". Way things are going he could be joining Oliver's Army soon.

..... The issue was the club/Brown who got difficult about the compensation they wanted and were quite prepared for him not to play for a year rather than compromise on how much money they got. So he lost a year of what is a short career out of spite. ..... I don't understand this. I thought he was a free agent but, being a youth system product and still under 24 years old, SUFC would be paid either a transfer fee or a fee decided by the EFL tribunal. I don't think SUFC ever had the choice to block any move - unless he was still under contract?

Was definitely out of contract and refused a new contract at Southend when they were relegated.
But as he was still under 24 Southend (whilst not holding his registration any more) would still have been due compensation. And still would be due compensation if he transferred to another UK club (not sure how it works in Europe but it seems like they've found a way around it).
I suppose if Southend were asking for silly money and no clubs willing to take a tribunal risk it really did end in a stalemate.
I think I remember reading on Shrimperzone that the actual tribunal fee would have been quite substantial as he'd been at Southend for over 3 years, played in excess of 100 games, and was a full international. All quite big milestones.
The fact that it was Southend, 100 games on a downward spiral through the league's, relegation to the National League and only a Ugandan International wouldn't have made a difference to the tribunal fee.
Same price it would have been if it was a kid who played for Liverpool, who'd played 100 first team games, and was a Brazilian International. Though I doubt a kid like that would struggle to find any takers.

It sounds like nobody wanted to take a punt on Elvis for fear of what the tribunal would decide. Perhaps he's not that much in demand after all.

Seems to me he's a bit of a troublemaker, he'll do the same to us wouldn't touch with a barge pole Is there evidence of that? Not too sure there is. He didn’t want to sign a new contract at a club just relegated to the NL. Another season in a list of poor seasons. Who can blame him. He had played well for the club and provided them with an opportunity go get some money too. The issue was the club/Brown who got difficult about the compensation they wanted and were quite prepared for him not to play for a year rather than compromise on how much money they got. So he lost a year of what is a short career out of spite. I wish him well in his career. Evidence clear as a bell, typical non league player with idea's way above his station, his actions cost him a year out of the game, silly boy

As far as I can see his only ‘crime’ was not wanting to play for Southend and Phil Brown. Sounds quite reasonable to me.

Kirsty MacColl - There's a guy works down the chip shop, swears he's Elvis 1981
