Just a quick question how do the FA work out that 3rd plays 6th and 4th plays 5th?
Wouldn't it be better/fairer perhaps if 3rd played 5th and 4th played 6th

I suppose its because it rewards the team in 3rd the most by playing the weakest of the four. But it is a valid point never thought about it before

Even though I enjoy the play offs a fairer way would be the following.
The team that finishes 3rd goes straight into the final.
6th plays away to 5th, in a 1 off game and the winner plays away to the 4th placed team, then the winner of that match would play the final.
At least that way it would be an advantage to finish higher.

I don't think it matters who you play. It is a one off two leg affair followed by a cup final.
I am more worried about the team's form going into it but first half against Sheff Utd was much better.

It might be a disadvantage, but on the other hand it would give the 3rd placed team a chance to give the squad a rest and for the players to get over any niggling injuries. I would also play the first game on the Saturday, the second on the Wednesday, and the final on Sunday. Any team that comes 5th or 6 th and gets promoted would certainly have to work hard for it
