We really need to make these home games count if we are to push on over the next month.
We are hard to beat, but we also find it hard to break some teams down and thats where a playmaker like Kemp would be handy to open up the defence. I suspect KJ wants more graft from him before he trusts him to play that role. The trouble we have is that our midfield centrally speaking is not capable of opening teams up and we rely on the width to create however, where is the plan b when the wide spaces are closed down? That's an issue we seem to come against and are yet to find a solution.

Not too sure I agree about Kemp. Seems to have gone off the boil and become ineffective. But he has the talent, of that there is no doubt. I’m hoping Smyth fills that role. And in place of Clay. Clay hasn’t done much wrong to be fair but just lacks that creativity. But Smyth is unlikely to get 90 minutes. So maybe KJ can shuffle the pack to allow both to show what they can offer.

Obviously there’s no such thing as having too much creativity. But I think it’s poor defending rather than a lack of creativity that has done for us in recent games.
At Barrow we conceded a very sloppy goal. Barrow were hardworking but toothless, and we gifted them a goal.
Our defending at Port Vale was woeful all first half and the last few minutes of the second.
We did look like scoring against Mansfield, and we would have won that game 8 times out of 10. You get games like that in the course of a season.
So for me the defence is the major issue, although of course more creativity in centre midfield is never going to go amiss

Kemp is a creative player but he’s not physically big enough and therefore possibly need two players around him in the middle. That would mean changing the formation to say a 532 perhaps, and I don’t think Jacket would do that because he seems to favour 433 at the moment. Also playing direct as Jacket does, you would and will bypass the midfield and thats the problem, but some may think otherwise?🙈

We really need to make these home games count if we are to push on over the next month. Agree. Walsall is a must win and Forest Green a must not lose. With just 4 points separating 3rd and 14th with Os 2 points off either, now is not the time to slip. Can’t afford to just get another 2 points from 3 games especially as they could and should have had at least 7 from last 3.

Need at least 5 points from next 3 to stay in contention, but ideally more.

I think Kemp should be back.

KJ always sets his teams up to be hard to beat, so as NEO says, defence is a bit of an issue. When he took Wolves to the League 1 title they only conceded 31 goals in the season, so far we’ve let in 11, an average of one a game. Tighten up the defence and we can score enough goals to finish top 3.
