I must admit that I wish I hadn't started this thread. I have nothing against RW and feel that he wants to make us successful. It's just something that doesn't strike me as an Orient club man. Good thread. It raises a key observation. We have rarely had a manager who is an Orient Club man. Not many players either. This stuff is a myth. They are Orient people whilst they are employed by the club. That’s it. They may take with them fond memories when they go, no different to any job. But their loyalty is to their family and the club paying their wages. i went to Notts County to pay my personal respects to Slade. At the end he came over to acknowledge the travelling fans, did the badge touching thing. A few weeks later on TV at Cardiff, he went over to his new fans, and did the badge touching thing. Different employer, different loyalties. Ambitious people in life can be quite mercenary. Passionate and loyal to their employer. Until they move on when that is transferred to their new employer.

Was Brian Clough easy to like?, just let this guy do his stuff and get us on the up.. He seems to know what he’s doing and has the respect of the players, which will undoubtedly be followed by the supporters, if success ensues!!! Exactly. I've said it before with KJ and now with Richie. We need at least 3 years stability with a manager. As long as we're not fighting relegation I think Richie should stay on and be given as much time as he needs.

I'm glad you did start the thread as it seems like a few of us have had similar feels about the situation. Like you I have nothing against Richie and wish him all the best. I'll be there supporting today and forever like always.

I liked Brian though can see why others didn't, me personally I could forgive him almost anything, a breath of fresh air a quick wit the press guys loved him, think most of the players did as well. Peter Taylor and "Old Big 'ead" knew a player when they saw him, even Roy Kean respected him, sad he's know longer with us. In the mean time with Ritchie Wellens long may he succeed with us, I got nothing against him or his no nonsense northern grit, good on ya Wellens sock it to "em.

Well, I like the guy. He says it the way he sees it and that does it for me. No bulls***. I think if he is allowed to make his own decisions he will bring us success .

Of course he doesn’t say it as he sees it. No bulls*** when he talks but he will be very aware that his public utterances can affect individuals in his squad or his squad in general. So his chats will be tactful too. That is pretty obvious. So saying it as he sees it will only go so far before caution kicks in. And that is right and proper too. It’s called management.

The important thing is that clearly the players believe in him. He has instilled confidence into them. He does what KJ couldn’t seem to understand, ie play the players in their best positions. I believe that he feels that he needs to prove himself again, by getting us playing open attractive, winning football. Very few managers manage their boyhood clubs, so to them it is just a job, but the better you are at it , the higher you can go. RW, to me comes across as a decent, straight talking, down to earth bloke, who doesn’t suffer fools gladly. After three months of total dross, I think we are in for a much more exciting season, next season and a real chance of promotion. It will be interesting to see who he lets go and who he brings in. We are finally on the up! Come on you Os.

I don't know him as yet as I have not seen the post match interviews. What I have seen on the pitch I like, introduction of the younger players and giving them a chance to show their future part in his plans.

After two wasted seasons we all need something to cheer. That second half yesterday didn’t remotely look like open attractive football. Dross is a better description. As it was against Oldham and Sutton. Still work in progress. We live in hope.

For me RW took a big gamble coming here had we been relegated his stock would have been massively damaged but he has now comfortably steered us to safety and has earned the right to experiment with this squad. I can see similarities to the JE era in that when he came in we were in a similar situation Wellens has a great chance to get a head start on other teams by as he said start his pre season now and has earned himself time to get his own team together Up the Os

Many players have that too. Seem to recall Vincelot invoking his. But for sure he has earned the right to experiment. Half a dozen games this season plus a full preseason. And of course the benefit of Smyth being fit. Next season Clay and Happe will be available. He will also benefit from a squad having been playing together for a season. A massive opportunity, doubt they get any better. I’m looking forward to promotion already.

Red I post them up after each game, someone else did it yesterday so they are all on here for you to watch. Check them out as we’ve got a winner in RW.

I noted that RW said Harry Smith was "outstanding" (let's assume that's a good "outstanding"). In that Harry wasn't on very long, maybe this is RW's way of telling Harry that he's in the plans.

I suspect you are right. Harry Smith wasn’t on for long and he wasn’t outstanding. RW will be mindful of what he says and it’s impact on the team. Him saying that is probably more to keep Harry happy and feeling wanted. No bad thing. Good management.
