What a wonderful player he was with us. It was a pity he was too good to sign with us permanently.

Still, Bechetti would've screwed the whole thing up anyway.

Listen.. i'm Eldin's biggest fan. He was class and up there with best i've ever seen.
But at what point do you stop calling yourself a professional footballer if you don't play?
Eldin has played 30 games since he left us in 2014, and none since 2018.

The backup players are still needed for high intensity training. No point the strikers shooting against a goalkeeper who doesn’t know what he is doing. Or a defender against a striker who is a schoolboy as they don’t then get practice to do it in a game. To me if you win a league or cup the whole squad should get recognition for it not just the 11. To call them not professional footballers is a bit of an insult. He is now playing with the best players in the country getting paid a lot of money. Well done to him

I get that and fair play to him it's obviously a conscious decision to be a backup at a higher ranked club than a starter lower down the league.
But wouldn't his title be better placed as a goalkeeping coach or something?

But wouldn't his title be better placed as a goalkeeping coach or something? I think he was brought in for cover as they have a couple of injuries. Short term deal looks like. I doubt they need a coach as that’s all sorted when they brought in lampard Personally if I was a gk and a prem team offered me 10k a week to be a backup and play with some of the best players in the world at 37 or be a first choice at say orient on 2k a week I know which one I would do. I could go to a nice place of work. Play on a decent pitch in a huge stadium albeit as part of a warm up or training. Still beats any offer outside the top two leagues. You never know he might get on. All the big clubs do it. Look at Man City they have 40 something Scott Carson as 4th choice. Never plays but they love him up there.

Agree that it's a no brainer.
We had a similar debate on when Jay Spearing left Tranmere in the summer and joined Liverpool just to be the experience in their under-23 teams.
For lower league clubs it's potentially a problem in losing that experience purely on a financial basis.
Not a problem that couldn't be overcome though but still another tick for the Premier League.
