Well as some of you know my Dad's ill health has resulted in him not able to go watch his beloved Leyton Orient to much this season ] He came with us to Wembley yesterday and I have to say the stewards where fantastic from the car park all the way to the upper West tier helpful very accommodating no stairs for him all lifts stewards guarded him to make sure he didn't get bumped etc
My dad has never been a man of many words just gets on with his day the best he can however yesterday after the missed penalty he cried like a new born baby it brought a lump to the throat of my brother and I because my Dad knows that was his chance his last chance of seeing his Orient being promoted
My dad has blood cancer and is terminally ill I would of loved that win selfish as it seems just to see him happy
Football it certainly is a funny old game
Hope you lot don't mind me sharing this with you
Oh and a huge huge thank you to all the Wembley staff who made sure my dad was as safe and comfortable as he could be
THANK YOU.....

Thanks for sharing that with us Lexi O. In the long run promotion to the Championship is not that important, it is all about supporting your team and I am sure your dad has enjoyed watching Orient play some wonderful football this season and if he wasn't at the match I am sure you told him all about it! See you next season!

What your Dad is going through puts Orient losing into perspective. All the best Lexi.

Sorry to hear about your Dad Lexi O but so glad you got him there. My elderly cousin who comes with me seems to have worsened quite a bit in a relatively short time. We had issues getting into the ground, although we cabbed it from Wembley Park right to West Entrance but he couldn't do those stairs. We got directed to a lift....but had to walk right back round to the front for it, then walk back to West Entrance for entrance P. Perhaps I didn't plead his case enough - I don't know. We had built in enough time to have a steady amble and get us seated by about 2.15 but what with the walking and pausing for him to get breath (although it was level) we just got seated in time for the National Anthem. After Nathan applauded the fans I set about getting him out. A steward got us in a restricted access lift from behind out seats when I said I needed him out and into a cab as simply as possible. Their idea of ground level wasn't mine (we got to the big walkway) but thankfully going downstairs is not as bad as going up and we were spotted by the same cab driver who came straight across to us. I guess if I'd had him in a wheelchair our need would have been obvious and our experience may have been different but his needs are different. I was concerned at one point that he would collapse but he paced it and coped. I'm glad he got to see the game as was he - he joked at half-time that "those 2 goals made it worth it". I've not let this out anywhere else (although DID respond to a comment about not clapping the team off the pitch)but felt you, and anyone else reading this thread might understand why today I'm "getting over" more than the penalties.
