SUFTO / PANDAMONIUM FANZINE STATEMENT:
This has been one hell of a week for the O's. A few weeks ago we were all trotting out the line about "if anyone had offered us a play off place at the start of last season we'd have snapped your arm off". A few weeks on after the heartache of Wembley we are selling players for seven figures and are in the midst of a possible takeover by a billionaire! Doesn't time fly when an Orient fan!
As far as we understand everything, the deal for Becchetti to become the next owner of LOFC is very close. Approximately 80-90% done. The report in the London Evening Standard tonight is encouraging in that he wishes to remain at Brisbane Road for the time being and invest heavily in the side. Today's earlier news that CEO Matt Porter is to be kept on as at least a director is also excellent news.
No-one can predict what might happen, and of course until all the paperwork is signed, the deal is not done. Changes of ownership like this bring an air of inevitable excitement but also bring about worry through uncertainty. At the moment this campaign and my fanzine are happy to give the possible new owner our fullest backing and we'll all cross our fingers for now that this is a good thing for Leyton Orient and that he can take us to the next level.
With regards to this campaign, nothing changes. No matter who owns Leyton Orient, the deal to move WHU to the OS hasn't of course changed and is still grossly unfair on the O's and other clubs and in our opinion represents poor value for the tax payer as well as the deal amounting to state aid of a private enterprise.
Our work, for the time being, will continue. It would not only be foolish to halt the campaign but wouldn't be right from a moral point of view as we are representing so many people that have backed us in our fight for justice since the campaign began, and even if LOFC suddenly become a moneybags team, the deal on the table is wrong and could have a profound affect on others clubs and not just the O's.
As other outside influences unfold, we will of course be seeking from any new possible owner what his / her thoughts are on the OS issue and if, as always, we can support the club going forward, especially in regard to the proposed WHU move to Stratford.
Both this campaign and Pandamonium Fanzine remain optimistic about the future for the O's and will be keeping a very keen eye on various dealings involving the club over the near future. Caution remains (this is the Orient after all) and we'll just have to wait and see what else unfolds in the next few weeks and months.
As per usual, many thanks for everyone who has supported, contributed and or helped the campaign. Work continues (another update coming very soon) for the time being and regular updates as always will be posted up here on the campaign page first and foremost.
