Probably why it wasn't released. I heard it today and it wasn't bad, maybe I should listen a few more times.

It’s nice enough song, but yeah, not one of their best. If it wasn’t by the Beatles I doubt there’d be much interest in it.

Completely agree and I dont think it would have been good enough to have even made it on to one of their LP's when they were recording together as a group.

I've listened to it a few times now and it's got a "Bond theme tune" written all over it.
Anyone else getting that from the song?

Here’s a little short film about the making of it that I found kind of interesting.

The Beatles had their moments and it’s understandable why people raved about them back in the day, but they recorded a hell of a lot of tosh. Yellow Submarine is particularly poor. As is O bladdy di, O bladdy da. For me, the red and blue albums covers most of the essential stuff, though Rubber Soul and Abbey Road are pretty good. The White Album needs to be about a third of its length.

If it wasn't for the Beatles the Western world would have been so much poorer, fashion, music, and a state of mind.
I don't know what era you grew up in but believe me, they changed everything.

This is true, Bas. I’m not arguing the point at all, but it’s interesting to think of a music and cultural world led by artists like the Chuck Berry, the Beach Boys, Motown. Maybe it would go in the same direction but much slower. It’s exactly like what music have been without Mozart, Jimmie Rodgers (the singing brakeman one), or Robert Johnson for me. Probably not completely different, but not as enjoyable. The Beatles were and are much much bigger and much more influential I know.

You could add many more to that including Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bill Haley, The Everly Brothers, the list goes on.
They were the start of the change but the Beatles just changed the culture (at least in the UK) completely.
We had the 2nd world war, then rock'n roll, then bang, even the the old people started to skip going to the barbers.
They certainly put Liverpool on the map. If it wasn't for them it would just be another place up north, somewhere next to Wales.
They were influenced by the american scene for sure, we all were.

Other groups as they were called went to America before The Beatles, gave up on most when they called themselves bands.Always liked a good song though and good songs that I can sing are still very much part of my life.Spirit in The Sky a one hit wonder is one of many favourites.

Having listened to the ‘new’ Beatles song, I reckon it’s Lennon’s thanks to McCartney. It has grown on me. Best Beatles albums for me were Revolver and Rubber Soul.

It was The Tornados with Telstar that first topped the American charts.Hermans Hermits were more popular than the Beatles at one time in the USA.

It may have been better, who knows. No doubt they were a cultural phenomena that has never been repeated, though Elvis had a similar impact in the 1950s. However as far as I am concerned their music doesn’t always hold up to what other acts of the era produced. Some brilliant songs and a couple of superb albums, but a hell of a lot of stinkers. I was born in 1964, so by the time I was aware of them, they had long gone. But they have been incredibly durable. Unlike Elvis. www.vulture.com/article/best-beatles-songs-ranked.html
