Last night in the throes of insomnia I was pondering where would all the teams be if the Bosman rule did not exist.Would such high wages be paid to the top players,would players be more loyal to their clubs and most of all where would we be.On the latter I concluded we would be in League 1.

General view being that power now lays with the players via their agents meaning they, the top ones anyway, demand and get big bucks and the richer clubs get their pick of the top talent way out of the reach of the lesser clubs. The gap between the big boys and the rest becomes a chasm that most cannot bridge.
Having said that, pre-Bosman clubs had far too much power over the lives and careers of players at the end of their contract.
A middle road needed to be found, Bosman probably not it.
