Looking at the televised games over the Christmas period especially the Fulham vs Arsenal game.It looked like the Arsenal players were less than enthusiastic in playing the game. With the influx of foreign players predominately in the PL do they resent playing in this period when everyone else is on holiday? This as players in Europe are having a break.

Isn’t it only Germany that have a designated winter break now though? I’m probably wrong, but the intention behind it was pitches were frozen, conditions impossible and so many games called off …
(If a winter break is introduced…) Just more games to fit in at another part of the season, so let the children play

Not wanting to piggy back this thread but... Orient have a slight winter break currently. Does anyone know if the players have been able to grab some winter sun?

Chelsea, Liverpool and Fulham won’t have much of a break as they have to play in League Cup this week. Similarly all the premier league teams who drew in the FA Cup. Arsenal’s lack of enthusiasm is more likely down to the same players playing game after game with no breaks. Last couple of seasons thanks to winter World Cup, ended in late May and recommenced early August. Fortunately, Orient’s success last season meant they were done and dusted in April. Ditto Stevenage and Northampton. Carlisle seem to be paying the price of playing for another month.

Or could be that Carlisle were simply the least able to sustain the step up? Maybe. The three teams that were promoted via the play offs are all in their respective relegation zones. I think it would be better to scrap play offs and just have automatic promotion as it’s unfair that these teams have to play three extra games and then as a result of their success be faced with harder opponents the following season. I think the longer break that Orient (and Northampton and Stevenage) had did help.

Last time this happened we gave the players time off and we came back not ready and lost, this time they have reversed it so hopefully we are ready to go once more when we play games.

I will never be convinced that after playing 46 league games a side can be way off the pace and get lucky a couple of times, especially if they win on penalties. I am glad Orient got their last two promotions as champions. And hope they do it that way when they head into the Championship 🏆

Plays offs keep “fringe” teams (and their fans ) interested and generate revenue, excitement and the possibility of reward. To scrap them as you suggest in your earlier post would make no sense imho.

I gather the top clubs will be using the winter break to disappear to the sun for a bit of warm weather training and team bonding. Not an option for many teams in the EFL.
