Strange to say this as we've won both the games at Pompey away and Bolton at home, but the referee's in both games just seemed really keen to give everything to the 'bigger' club.
Normally you'd complain when you've lost but the guy today in particular just seemed so so thirsty to help Bolton out.
If I was a referee's assessor or whatever they're called I'd be questioning his integrity.
The offside thing that he gave in the first half against us when he was miles away and the linesman didn't see anything wrong was one of the most bizarre things I've seen.

Big club bias even in league 1

It feels that way but you don't really want to say it.
If you say it when we've lost it sounds like sour grapes, but we won. And the ref was absolutely terrible.
That said.. Richie did deserve to get sent off. Of that there's no doubt.

And I’m guessing the Bolton fans are saying the ref was against them

I have to disagree with you about the Portsmouth game. Other than the pen I thought pretty much everything went our way.

He overturned a lot of decisions that the linesman gave out way in favour of Pompey. And the penalty for them which was never a penalty. And the penalty we should have had when they had Forde over on the 2nd half. As I say.. I'm sleeping easy about it and haven't wet the bed yet but it just seems odd that I'm having a moan even though we've won!

Trust me that lino on the east stand side was truly shocking all game.

Well this is really odd. The ref is American and seemingly used to refereeing MLS games. He's only had a handful of games in UK football. www.whoscored.com/Referees/1924/Show/Alex-ChilowiczDoesn't make him a bad ref or anything like that I suppose. Wonder if this is a new initiative from the FA? Seems odd that he's only been in charge of less than 50 games in his career. Though I can imagine the statistics may not be complete.

He's only referred 5 English games, 2 in league 1, 3 in league 2. been parachuted into efl, why no non league games, as all of our refs do, utterly clueless, didn't even know how to end the game properly

I am not defending Chilowicz. I did learn some more background of this referee if anyone is interested. He’s been an official in 237 MLS games, and relocated, temporarily, to England to further his profession as a jazz musician. According to boarders on an American forum, Big Soccer, he reached out through a phone call to Howard Webb and the FA worked him in for a few months, but he plans to go back to MLS in a few months. Make of that what you will.
Yes, there are fans here that follow referees.

Every league referee officiated an EFL game for the first time. They all only officiated a handful of games for the first time. Have to admit I’m surprised at the furore over his performance. Sure some stuff was odd but par for the course. Referees are people and will give it as they see it which inevitably hacks off either one side or the other. And they will make mistakes. Some Bolton fans seem equally annoyed. Not a sign of bias. I’m equally perplexed over the grabbing yardage from throws. Galbraith was doing this all the time and on one occasion told to go back because he tried to nick silly yardage. Same for free kicks, players pick the ball up and steal yards or position. Standard in games these days. If referees pick up every instance they will be criticised for not letting the game flow. I don’t think yards was the real issue, what was was Bolton wanting to get on with the game quickly and in the process stealing space. Slowing it down was our strategy.

What on earth was Howard Webb thinking, all the work that our Refs go through to climb the Pyramid and this clueless numpty gets a job via a phone call. Trust Webb to do this, Questions need to be asked of Webb's thinking.

Is the MLS poor quality? Don't think so. Plenty of well known players there right now way above league 1 standard. If he’s officiated in 237 games that’s an amazing chunk of experience. So can’t see why his credentials are being brought into doubt. What exactly did he do wrong, accepting the odd decision us fans question after every game? It’s called bias.
