Booked train tickets for Mrs doh and me to Reading Green Park ant they cost £7.75 return each. We do have a seniors railcard saving a third. But we felt this was really cheap.

It’s a sight cheaper than a return to Waterloo and not far off the tube cost Waterloo to Leyton even with an Oyster. In fact when the price came up I did a double take to make sure Id bought 2 tickets and not 1. My Rail planner showed £13.70 each and was moaning (really!) that South West trains direct were charging more. Then checked I had two tickets sent to my phone.

To think I moan if I have to get two busses when the central line is not running. At the moment they are working on the motors of the trains so delays of a sort are inevitable.London has a superb network of trains and busses, one of the reasons I stayed in Hainault and did not go to Braintree and surrounding areas as my family and neighbours did. On a normal day it is just 40 minutes from home to my seat in the East Stand. The journey home is very tough going.I will buy a season ticket for 24/25 and that will probably be my last after 69 years.

Been a difficult season for train travel. Strikes, driver shortages, line maintenance with replacement bus services. Don’t go to evening games anyway. But at least I now buy my tickets late (more expensive 😡) so check I can get to the game and home before I travel. Tube disruption however is annoying. Already suffered from a broken down train.
Feel I’m getting too old.

Has anyone tried this? My dart playing colleague assures me that you can get to Reading for nothing using a Freedom Pass as the Elizabeth Line is TFL owned. Not sure about that but I know if you have a Freedom Pass or six zone oyster card you can ask for a ticket from zone six to your destination. Just investigated this and :"According to the London Councils website: “Older Persons pass holders will be able to use their passes from 9am on weekdays and at all times at weekends and Bank Holidays on the entire Elizabeth line, up to and including Reading. “Disabled Persons pass holders will be able to use their passes at all times on the entire Elizabeth line up to and including Reading.” www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1614651/freedom-pass-elizabeth-line-crossrail-evg

That is great value, I'm sure my daughter paid £34 from Abbey wood where her and her mates were meeting to go to the Reading Festival last year.
So if you can get there for free with your pass, then that's bloody great value.

I worked at Richmond for a while. Our European head office was in Central London with satellites around the place and Richmond was one of them. Lovely place, the walk down the river especially in summer is wonderful. There is a huge number of pubs in the area as well. Sir Richard Attenborough lived on the green and Mick Jagger has a place at the top of the hill. Up there as well is Richmond Park which is a stunning park, I would certainly live there without a second thought. I still go and meet my old work mates for a beer there and a meet up is currently being setup to go back to Richmond. Get yourself down there Red it's one of the nicer parts of London.
