No. I'd suggest to buy a midfielder who we could count on to play a full match each week. I'm not sure Pratley would be able to do this in a years time due to age.

There are exceptions previously players who have maintained their fitness and carried on past 40 years of age. Notably Billy Bonds, Glenn Hoddle and Peter Taylor. In the modern game would these players survive?Isaw Glenn Hoddle play for Swindon as a player/coach he had moved back to a centre half position. He orchestrated the team from that position quite successfully.

The back up physically that the players get, massages, scans, physio, etc. is much more advanced now. It seems that rules on the pitch are stricter and the ball lighter. I would imagine that if he wanted to carry on and there was a role for him then discussions would be positive and some sort of agreement vis a vis wages and commitments could be struck. He's good for morale, gets stuck in and enjoys the job, so I can't see a problem giving him an extra year. He's also a good ambassador for the club. Could it also be that he could play a decent role in the training ground? Maybe with the young players/youth teams? He's a loyal member of staff, and a veteran.

The ball has not got any lighter than its ever been, the difference between the old lace up balls and today is they don't hold moisture or water now. I was arguing with someone over the old mitre balls I played with as a kid as they were heavier or at least that's how I remember them and again they would hold some water. Now these balls used today are like the old plastic balls you played with in the street as a kid, you really can do anything with them.
What is real is the ball moves quicker than ever as its consistency remains the same no matter how wet the conditions maybe.

If he stays next year he will be an asset to the team and the club. I think that’s beyond doubt. The question is whether the money needed for that asset could be better spent on something else. Such as a younger player who can play 90 minutes twice a week. Depends a lot on finances I guess, and what the player is looking for. I wonder if some sort of player/coach role would be of interest to him?

I would offer one more year for Pratley. It would allow the likes of Brown and Galbraith to develop further with experience next to them for another season.
Remember that unless we sign Idris, it's highly unlikely (not to mention unusual) that we'll see him again next season.
So we'll need to bring in another midfielder and having Pratley there would help that transition.

Both Brown and Galbraith are far from the finished article and Pratley could help their development. Though our coaches should be good enough to do this too. Wouldn’t be surprised if he got another year and not against the idea, then again I wouldn’t get upset if we replaced him with a younger, decent player. I just don’t think we will get a solid season out of him and he could become an expensive part time player. Not an easy decision, assuming he wants to continue playing of course. He may see his future elsewhere.

I'd add Sanders to the list of midfielders who may benefit from having DP around, perhaps one or two from the academy like Manny Harvest.

I'd add Sanders to the list of midfielders who may benefit from having DP around, perhaps one or two from the academy like Manny Harvest. Both Richie Wellens and Paul Terry were midfielders. Enough talent and experience there to help our current crop. It could be an expensive luxury to have an experienced player who may only play a few games in the squad. if the club and DP feel he can contribute serious minutes on the pitch then fine, he is a good player. But I doubt our budget runs to having decent, experienced players not up to playing regularly. All comes down to his fitness and stamina. 39 next birthday and 40 during next season. Be interesting to see how RW and the club approach this. Not an easy decision.

We missed Sanders yesterday I thought so, he is about the best we have in terms of looking up and spotting the killer pass. Richie said "Sanders' body is not able to stand the pace of playing the RW style", l hope that can be fixed with fitness work.

I think that was more in response to the number of games he's missed this season and therefore he is not up to speed or fitness yet. A good pre season will cure all that. I quite like him and with good fitness I think he will be capable of a whole lot more.

After his performance yesterday, I would say no. I would keep him on as a coach though.
