Bad news on Theo, our for 9 months or so. He has to have an operation to rebuild his knee. Do we know if he will even recover sufficiently that he will play again?
The point is, he has only 4½ months of his contract left, so what will happen when that runs out
1/ we could offer him a 1 year contract, hoping he recovers enough to play again
2/ We could not offer him a contract, and wait until he has recovered, and can prove he's able to play at this level again
Because we're a decent club, I think the club will offer him a one year contract, even though we dont know if he will be able to pay again
Thoughts?

Nigel and Kent have brought decency and honourability to the club, Orient will support Theo a crowd favourite and offer him a 1 year contract to get him fit and playing again, love the guy to bits.

Agreed. He has been magic and I think if the club can afford it why not. Wishing him well .

Being able to afford it isn't the question, what will not be done because the money allocated for it has been spent on Theo? However, heart over head, we are Orient and loyalty and decency are in our genes. Long may that be so.

Tough break for any player to get a bad injury towards the end of his contract. Get well soon, Theo.

I would imagine he’s a top earner so if he looks like he’s not going to get better I would not renew his contract . There might not be enough money in the kitty to keep him and sign an equivalent player . Would everyone also be happy if we kept Happe and Theo and James if they are not recovering ?

I’d assume there is some sort of insurance, either through the club or the PFA which means Theo won’t be left without an income whilst he can’t play, even if he doesn’t get a contract extension. I’d hope so anyway, but maybe I’m just being naive and thinking the best of the world.

Every other player in the squad is going to look at how the club treat Theo.
As I understand it, they are going to put in a new ACL for Theo, which is major knee surgery, but amongst sports stars is not so unusual these days. It is the loss of muscle and the recovery period that takes the player out for so long, but the results are often favourable these days, with players getting back to where they were previously.
If it's 9 months then he'd be back just before Christmas, so putting him on a special contract with the option for an extended deal once fitness has been proved, would surely be something the club would want to do.

I know nothing of sports contracts but I can imagine a long term contract has been signed and agreed with Theo before this operation was agreed. It'll give comfort and rest assurance to the player during recovery and also the club have done the right thing. Again nobody will be hung out to dry as I can also imagine insurance policies have been taken out to cover most eventualities.

Theo will come back.
