When he got back again in the team this season after being left out, he played very well, but recently he has started to have '' issues again around his levels of awareness/ concentration''
So annoying that a good player like him is letting himself and the team down time and again by this very same short coming.
Indeed. Despite his often good performances, it is a flaw that has been in his game throughout his time with us and resurfaces too often for a centre back who is a regular starter imho. Possibly next season we will be in a position to improve personnel in that position and not have to be dependent upon Beckles as a first choice? Which is a great shame. Beckles is a strong and competent defender. Not creative going forward so just pass to someone who is, that’s fine. But his awareness or simple lack of concentration is a weakness in his game that is becoming a liability. Cost us big time Saturday. Sadly if he cannot eradicate it then we need to change personnel. That makes me sad. Over to our coaches.

In the football teams of decades ago the midfield would take it from the centre backs and move it forward as usually the most skilled player was in the mid field the issue of moving the ball forward without pumping up field with a long hoof was taken care of. Additionally the responsibility was not the centre half.

Additionally the responsibility was not the centre half. That's true. Also, wingers back in the day were not often seen pressing or tackling back but, in both cases, that's a luxury nobody can afford. I believe it was Don Revie who introduced the winger/midfielder roles (E Gray and Lorimer),the overlapping fullbacks (Cooper and Reaney) and the centre back who played midfield (Madeley) when they had possession. Generally, there was no hiding place, everyone was required to contribute. Seeing Omar and Brandon standing in the centre circle with nobody to mark whilst our midfielders have no out-ball is not good use of the team. I view the emergence of Busquets in Spain as the player who developed the perfect model.

Thread is bit OTT imo. He had a bad game, it happens. We got promoted with experienced league 2 defenders and whilst Happe looks decent in League 1, Omar is generally solid and when paired with Dan, results show they can hack it at this level. Cooper is a work in progress. It’s our first season back in League 1 and we will be building for a tilt at the playoffs this summer and that will probably include bringing in a CB experienced at Championship level. Richie has got us playing above the sum of our parts, so it is irritating to lose to a team that set up to frustrate and were just waiting for us to make a mistake, but with a frontline with so little experience and the rest of the team running on fumes, it’s not surprising we slipped up.

My frustration isn’t about the defeat. Seen it all before and I have absolutely no doubt I will see it again. Probably next Saturday. We’ve had a good season, better than I expected. Overall very happy. The club in general is doing an excellent job. That said, I was embarrassed by our approach during the whole game Saturday. We just didn’t turn up. Our capitulation in the second half was a disgrace. Some of our passing was shocking and we just rolled over. No fight. Let's not forget we have an outside chance of playoffs and a potentially big, welcome, payday whether success or not is achieved. Momentum that bodes well for next season and the quality of player we can attract. And afford. With one or three exceptions our players looked like they didn’t want to be there, season over, playing out the season before the summer break. That is disrespectful to the club and the fans who turned up to watch. The players looked like they wanted to be somewhere else, next home games many fans will choose to be somewhere else. Attitude was the big issue. Surprised after such a performance on Tuesday. Attitude clearly demonstrated by yet another casual moment that cost us an equaliser and probably the game. I can, have to, put up with defeats. But I just cannot stomach what I saw on Saturday. Fight, give everything, try your best and if you still lose, that’s life. But for fcuk-sake don’t just roll over and give up.

We all have bad days.I am just delighted that we are doing so well. How many of us thought that we would be as high as this in the table before the season started. I am proud of the whole football club, all the team, management and board.Just think where we were not very long ago. People make mistakes. Footballers may not be feeling in the best of health but have to play. Well done all at Orient.

Dohnut May I ask you how you quantified your impression I did not get an impression they were not trying or wanted to be some where else.
They were either tired out and lost their way with their game plan or instructions. Yes we saw mistakes but that does not mean they were not trying.

They gave of their best and their best was not good enough on the day. Many is the time when I went to work as a floorlayer and no matter how I tried I could not do my job in a way that was acceptable or was earning me money so I gave up went back to work next day and was in the usual good form.It must happen to everyone who works.

They did try of that they can't be accused. They played some good football at times and we kept the ball well none of that can be disputed either. Our approach was off key, our forward passing was awry and our ability to play quickly may have been down to tiredness. It's just that our opposition were so poor its unreal, one of the worst teams I've seen this year and whilst we may not have had the chances our possession should have created them and 5 goals against such a poor team was truly feasible.

I got the impression we were trying, but their setup with 5 at the back, meant every time one of our wide men got the ball, they had two men to beat. They were happy for our back four to have the ball, hence the stats and they limited the space behind the back 5, so that balls into the channels were difficult to make, without either being over hit or intercepted in the air by their giant back line. They changed it up H2 by pressing us a bit more and as a result we got a bit more joy with Moncur getting into space, but the support wasn’t there and that’s as much because it’s a new front line, as it is players being slightly off the pace. Once they got the lead that was game over, not because we weren’t trying, but because their game plan worked and they didn’t give us space to play. Not pretty but effective.

Footballers may not be feeling in the best of health but have to play. Well done all at Orient. I doubt any of us are disappointed with our season nor amazed at how far we have come in the past 6 years. Truly amazing. Two championship titles, I’m old enough to remember the previous one 40 odd years ago. Probably more. Then two in a few years, wow. Just loved watching us collect the trophies. But, and this is where many of us differ, I enjoy very much our recent past, last season was an exceptional joy to watch. Fantastic, wonderful etc etc. But the important thing is to enjoy the past but rather than dwelling on it as job done, move the focus to the future. We move on, time moves on. Our club will survive or die depending on what we do going forward and not on what we have done in the past. Some clubs in the NL have a past better than ours. So what. The Board are forwards looking, not job done for them but work in progress. So better to enjoy our past but not keep on about it every time we have a bad day. Saturday was a bad day. Poor defending, lacking in any sort of attacking intent, bullied, some shocking passing, dominated in the second by a team 5th from bottom whose work rate put us in the shade. Example. First half our possession was 80%+ yet on the rare occasions they came forward they had 9 players forward and flooded our box. A few times when we had good positions out wide and I’m shouting cross, I looked, and we had Billy-no-mates in the box. So we played nice neat triangles, switching from left to right and back again. Generally ending in nothing. 80% possession 5 shots, two on target. Pathetic use of the ball.
