Chelsea failing to condemn their player for racially abusing a police officer. Going to court with the evidence of two police officers and presumably captured on their video cameras. Compared to how Cardiff dealt with Jack Simpson the approaches are chalk and cheese. Whilst Simpson showed instant remorse, Kerr and Chelsea have not. Denial and ‘we stand by our player’ platitudes. Wonder what Chelsea will do once (or if) the courts find her guilty. The Australian FA claimed they weren’t even aware of the incident and are monitoring the situation. In my opinion, she should lose her captaincy for the national team, face a lengthy ban and up to Chelsea whether they break her contract but their track record suggests they won’t.

Well, innocent until proven guilty and all that. She’s apparently denying saying whatever she’s accused of saying. I’ll wait until the judgement and see how people react then.
But letting the Australian FA find out in the press isn’t a good look. I wouldn’t be happy if I were them. But they don’t really have that much leverage over her. She’s by far the most popular and high profile Australian footballer, male or female. If she is found guilty, it’ll be interesting to see how much backbone they have to take action against her.
