Peter was a favourite player of many O's fans, myself included. He was a very stylish player with a lot of skill and like many players of that era could also "mix it" when needed. He went toe to toe with some of the hardest players around. I remember him looking after the great Laurie Cunningham when he was being kicked off the park by a couple of Chelsea players who shall remain nameless!
He was hampered by injuries throughout his career and often played when perhaps he shouldn't have. I reckon he played in just about every position bar goalkeeper while he was with us but midfield was where he figured most. A great servant to the club who will be sadly missed. RIP Peter.

Well said Timmo! “Les” was a stylish player who could genuinely play football but with a hard edge as well. Wonderful captain and player for the O’s during, arguably the club’s most successful period. He will be fondly remembered by those who saw him play.

Peter Bennett was a really good defensive midfielder who along with the likes of Tom walley and Peter Allen would be in my team of os greatest were it not for Mal Lucas and Cyril Lee . Very sad to hear he has passed R I P Peter.

Remember him well, Ada. He was a fine player, rated very highly amongst those of his period. Sad to hear he has gone.
