Once again RW seems annoyed, frustrated and disillusioned with both the performance and the quality of players at his disposal!

James was woeful. Sol cost us the first goal which was the key turning point in the game. Beccles fancying around too much.
Then we had lots of sideways passing out from the back far too slowly as well. Contrast that with how their back four played and its like night and day.
Forde was out on his feet, he's been like this for 5/6 games and needs a rest. Zero pressing from the front.
Adu looked lost out there, he's learning.
O'Neil looked bright but faded and wasn't quick to press.
Monks didn't affect the game as well as he could and disappeared after our bright start.
Lester was really disappointing when he came on.
Ruel just runs around a bit
So I'm not surprised he's annoyed. He got let down in the Jan window and it's all coming home to roost. He got told to toe the line and change his tune, but out Jan business has cost us a chance at the play offs. Maybe if injuries didn't disrupt us we might have been OK but we were hoping and praying more than anything.
The summer window is now so important to us, probably more important than Lings first one. Get it right and we have a chance and get it wrong and I would blame Richie for looking elsewhere. Whatever he wants we have to give him, the man is winner and he will deliver but we have to stop passing around.

Don’t blame Richie for being annoyed. And yes he was let down in the January window. Though that is becoming an annual event. Leaving things last minute then making up the numbers with some players totally out of their depth. Not good for us and not good for the young players getting a lesson in mens football before they are ready.
But why do we persist with this backwards/sideways stuff up front. Richie has mentioned this before but we still do it! Don’t the players listen. Seemed to me today we had some players already on the beach, just playing out the last few games. Nothing to play for. Others to be fair were putting in a shift.
We need to back Richie in the summer. Be proactive, get deals done and allow Richie and the squad to enjoy a decent preseason. If we don’t I’ve little doubt other clubs will.

Wellens has said I believe, that it would take 3 transfer windows before it was his kind of squad. So having got promotion with a mainly league 2 level squad and some decent additions we’ve done well to be competitive this season and but for significant injuries we could have been in the mix. Wellens will be irritated because he hates losing and because we didn’t play the full 90 the way he wants us to, but it’s now about building for next season. Looking forward to it.

First season up, remember. There's too much criticism on here today. I think generally the feeling is that the season has been good. Some really great results and some disappointing ones but I’m sure this was to be expected. And of course the loss of key players hasn’t helped. We all understand that’s the way it goes sometimes. Overall a decent first season back. Three of the promoted teams have done well but Carlisle an example of just how tough the transition can be, That doesn’t mean it’s wrong to express a little disappointment after yesterday and have the feeling of what could have been. Richie has done wonders and a playoff shot would be just reward. I don’t think any criticism is aimed at him whatsoever. But yet again we’ve seen a promising season not helped by a poor January window. Dont care about the reasons, just the outcome. We move forward and next season we will be stronger.

I fully understand Wellens sense of disappointment- whether it’s the right thing to express it ( as before) openly on camera is open to debate I guess. I don’t mind it myself but others see it as counterproductive. The January transfer window has once again proved our undoing as it did in the past for Embleton & Jackett. Hopefully this time it won’t have the same impact in a managerial sense. Why we struggle so badly to successfully strengthen in the new year is a genuine ‘ mystery of the Orient’ !😄 I think - as said elsewhere above - that given the injuries that have been sustained, the season overall has been a decent one. Whether we will “ come back stronger” as dohnut suggests remains unclear imho . A lot of difficult and ruthless decisions will be required ( something traditionally the club is not very good at) and a decent budget that enables us to be more competitive over 46 games and not only when Wellens has an injury free first team squad to choose from.👍

It's a rather downbeat end to the season but realistically, in the circumstances, it's hard to see how things could have been much different. RW will have learned a lot about League 1, the squad and himself, and hopefully that will stand us in good stead next year.

I can understand Richie's frustration. Not a lot seems to have gone right over the last few weeks. It's interesting that three out of the four promoted teams are now in the bottom four in the form table over the last six matches, so our squad doesn't seem to be alone in feeling the pace.
The young loan players know they won't be here next season, so literally nothing to play for for them. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see Forde in the starting line-up again, but let's not forget that he has had a brilliant season for a teenager. He will be a player at a higher level.
We should start Pigott for the rest of the season providing he's fit enough, since he is here next year.
Sweeney is an enigma. At times yesterday he looked brilliant. What a cross for the goal and one fantastic tackle in the box when he came across from his own side to cover for James.
Speaking of whom, James has seemed out of sorts for the last couple of months. I don't know if the new baby is keeping him up nights. Sad for him because he is one of the ones who needs to put in a shift to join a new contract.

Some excellent point made on this comment. We have survived our first season back which was the aim, flirted with the play offs then fell away.In my opinion that makes this an excellent season and knowing what type of players we need for next season. Also got a couple of juicy wins.
